Where can I get umeboshi plum vinegar? I looked for it in my local Asian store 3 times and couldn't find it. I found a vinegar called Chiaxing??? and I wasnt sure if it was plum vinegar b/c the price label said red plum but the ingredients didn't have any plums listed. I would love to start making recipes using plum vinegar/paste, so help me please. Is golden plum sauce or plum sauce the same thing? I did a banana search and saw recipes using it and saw brown rice vinegar could be used. What does that taste like? Are there any other substitutes? Thanks a lot!!!!

I got mine from our local food co-op.

I love ume vinegar. I'm not a purist-Rawist when it comes to condiements; I cut myself some slack there and really think it's okay. I find it at health food stores. If you can't locate it, try Gold Mine on-line. All sorts of neat stuff on that web-site.:)

I can get it at the local health stores OR at the local MARKET OF CHOICE, which is like a Whole Foods. It was fairly easy, which made me happy since I had never heard of it before but like *had* to make bacon. It's cheap and tastes great, too.
