In the book, "Raw Foods Detox Diet", the author recommends that if you are going to change from one food group to another, you must wait 3-4 hours to do that. She says that this will make sure that your stomach is empty and able to digest the something different. It would take me awhile to go into the whole concept of her book. I do like it and it got me into doing raw....I just don't know if this is how everyone does it or is it just her. I get what she is saying but I am wondering if anyone else does this?? Or does everyone just eat raw whenever they want. Would love to hear about other experiences!

Thanks for any responses!!

Blessings,
Tally :)

Hi Tally,

Not to sound brash, but I've been asked as moderator to inform members that Raw Food Talk is based upon the approach to raw foods as Alissa teaches in her book and dvd - I know this may seem one-sided, but there is a good reason for this...a "method to her madness" as they say, trust me :) . That's not to say that everyone here necessarily follows Alissa's approach, goodness knows THATS not true, but we do try to refrain from bringing too much focus on others' approaches here on the forum board even if we eat a different way whether it's fruitarian or low-fat or what have you. (Please see the sticky post - "New Rules for Posting on RFT" for more on that)

That being said, most of us here simply just eat raw (which is basically what Alissa's approach is) - and overtime, as it's been for many of us, your body will guide you into the right way to do it for YOU. But eating raw is "strict" enough...when you start trying to follow all the many (and most times conflicting) rules out there ESPECIALLY when first starting out, you tend to set yourself up to fall. So, for now, try to stick to eating raw and then the longer you've done it, you can start incorporating more "rules" if that is where you feel led. Best!

That book was the first one I read, and at first I started spacing food groups out like that. Now I mix things together. I would not be able to have my green smoothies by following those rules. My dinner preperations would not be doable either. I have not had any ill effects. I feel more healthy than I ever have, and keep losing weight. I also think her approach to having only fruit at breakfast could be a risky proposition for some people, but that's just my opinion.

Sorry! I apologize. I guess I was just excited about talking to others about raw foods.....I should have paid more attention.

Thanks for the advance and information.

I agree when you start eating Raw it's best to just eat Raw. There are certain food combining rules that you can incorporate later such as eating Melons with only other melons, etc.. Over time you will know what makes you feel the best. I personally feel great when I eat mostly greens and fruits.

Best wishes

Yeah, I looked at that book this week at the bookstore and after reading part of it I put it back on the shelf. I just finished reading Alissa's book and wanted to read more about raw foods. I have just ordered Green for Life and The China Study.

I agree that this group should stay on Alissa's style of eating, not only because this is her group, but because it works.:p

Am I correct in saying that the author of that book includes meat in her diet. You would want to leave hours after meat because it is a very very slow transit food.
On a vegan diet all of your transit times are shorter so you need to leave less time. Even grains and beans have a transit time of less than 2 hours.

Yes, i read that book too and was concerned about my salads because i eat them with fruit in them. i found this approach so ridgid that it drove me mad!

however, i was reassured on a course that eating as i do is the healthiest why poss, so i need not concern myself with small details like this.

now i eat diff fruit together and the fruit is back in my salads.
