does anyone know if it is safe to have a colonic while fasting? i was reading a website and it said to eat a light meal three hours before the colonic. i dont know what sense this makes...it also said to avoid gas forming foods as well. this is a killer because most of the juice comes from those foods that are gas forming.

It seems as though one would ask the person performing the colonic, no?

Colonics are GREAT to do while fasting/cleansing!!!!!!!
Go for it!

Juice is not gas-forming, though. Gas is formed when foods decompose because they are not being rid of so quickly...... when juicing, it's n/a.

And just do a juice after, for electrolytes. Maybe a young coconut, that is ideal. I've done colonics water-fasting.

You can ask your C. I. about the eating thing; You definitely don't want to eat right before a colonic... I would say you definitely want anywhere from 4 - 6 hours as a gap between your last meal and your colonic...

I agree with school about the colonics while fasting... if it's going to be an long and intense fast... you know when your fasting the digestive system slows all the way down (as it doesn't have any food to digest).. in the meantime, the body is busy ridding stored up toxins and things and sometimes things are sluggish just because of not having the digestive activity....I like to do colonics when I'm doing a long term fast (e.g. month or more) otherwise, things will become "stuck"

I've heard that a fast is the ideal time to do a colonic. A professional told me that you never want to eat right before a colonic.

thanks for the info guys..i was thinking the same thing. when i had a colonic a few years back, the instructions where not to eat anything that morning. i dont know why this company recommends eating 3-4 hours before...hmmmm..guess i'll just look for another one :)

School of rawk:

How long did you water fast when you did a colonic? Did you get dizzy or anything afterwards?

Am trying to do a 2-week water fast, and started today. Just loads of water and herbal teas so far, and so far so good!

Am having my first colonic tomorrow morning, so this thread answered some of my questions. The woman didn't mention anything about not eating in advance, but then I'm not anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem! :p

Am hoping the colonic will help kick-start my fast! What lavendarJ wrote sounds very sensible to me. :)

I would really like to have colonics done professionally.

Had my first colonic yesterday, and everything went really well. There wasn't too much happening in the way of dark matter, but I wasn't really expecting much with my history of constipation anyway. The woman said that what came out was very formed though, so I suppose it could have been there for a while! However, at the very end of the session, when she asked me to go to the toilet, I think some of the candida came out. I didn't know that could happen with the first colonic, but the woman said it could. It was white and and gooey, quite gross! My boyfriend is not convinced though. He thinks it could have been surplus fat. I don't know - I was the only one who saw it so I can't really get a second opinion on that! Have scheduled another one for 4 July.

The hydrotherapist was great, she gave me a glass of apple juice afterwards because your blood sugar can drop after a colonic. So I suppose I can't call this a pure water fast anymore. Also, this morning I had a bowel movement, which is quite unusual the day after a colonic! It could take days for your bowel movements to return to normal (although mine have never been normal! ;) ).

I've only just seen this thread, but I was going to say that my blood sugar plummets during a colonic. The first time they gave me a lolly to suck which surprised me because although I wasn't raw at the time, the lolly was full of e-numbers.

Now I take a couple of dates incase I feel a bit light-headed afterwards.

Glad your colonic was good! It's funny how after a few minutes it feels perfectly normal to have a tube up your bottom and discussing your bowel movements with a stranger.

I was on a fifteen day water fast two years ago and had colonics on 12 of those fifteen days and had no problems. This was with a licensed colonic therapist. colon hyrotherapy. Are you talking about an oral colonic? When you fast more than three days juice or water your digestive system shuts down and allows your body to heal other parts of your body. The colonic Hydrotherapy just flushes out the colon and doesn't flush the stomach.

The bowel movement could have been garbage that was loosened from the colon during the colonic and not expelled causing peristalsis and expelltion.don't worry about it not being a pure water fast. You get about the same results with water or juice. rest and healing of the body. and every fast you do is additive to cleansing of the body. three ten day fasts over time produce about the same results as one thirty day fast. If you fast one day a week you have a total of 52 days of fast for the year. I water fast one day a week from Sunday night to Tuesday morning This gives obout 16 hours when the body is completely at rest. The danger of long term fasting is not the fast but breaking the fast and allowing your body to adjust to digesting food again too much food could cause problems it might take a couple of days to have a bowel movement. at present I am on the 6th day of a 10 day water fast. The fast will actually take 13 days because to break the fast on the elevth day I will a small piece of watermelon or honey dew every hour the twelved day I eat a small salad with half a tomato. by the 13th day I normally have a bowel movement and that tells me everything is alright and I can resume eating in moderation. I do four 10 day Fasts a year. The best book I have found on fasting is "Fast your way to health" by Lee Bueno used from barnes and noble for about two bucks.

Lots of great information there!

I didn't know that fasting was accumulative like that, I did a 3-week juice fast in August last year and have fasted 8 days so far this time (hoping to do 3 weeks this time, too), so I guess all in all it's not too bad! :)

Fasting one day a week have always sounded like a good idea to me, but unfortunately the first day is always the hardest! :p Does it get easier with time?

Btw, about fasting and bowel movements - this time I've had a BM every day except one! One day I even had three! Is this usual? I take an Aloe Vera colon cleanse tablet each night and I've also discovered that a spirulina & chlorella juice in the evening really seems to get things going the next morning! I take 10g of spirulina powder and 5g of chlorella powder in a pint of orange juice and water (half 'n half). These dosages are larger than recommended on the box, but it's what was recommended by another health guru on the internet. Athletes take still more, and I don't really think you can overdose on it (although I could obviously be wrong!). Anyway, just wanted to share, because it really seems to work for me.

PS: I am also planning to break my fast with watermelon!

I had my third colonic yesterday, the therapist kept saying what a clever girl I was to fast while having them and that I should be very proud of myself with the results! I am starting the weekend gallbladder flush tomorrow and will finish it off with my fourth colonic on Saturday afternoon, at which point she reckons my insides will be as clean as a whistle! :D

I'm so grateful I could do some colonics while I am fasting. It definitely got out some layers of old badness in me. made me feel better too, for sure. I'm just not brave enough to do cleansing products while fasting but I can handle juice fasting and colonics. I'm on day six of a fast, shooting for ten and will do one more colonic to help things along.
