View Full Version : What do YOU eat for breakfast?

My mind is cluttered with things like "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" or "breakfast should be one of the biggest meals of the day", etc.
I have always struggled with breakfast. I admit I enjoy pancakes, waffles and tofu scrambles. I feel like lunch and dinner are easy on raw food but breakfast kinda stumps me. I wanna know what YOU eat for breakfast. Do you have any tips? Any suggestions? What makes you feel the best? What do you avoid in the morning? Usually if I start off eating well early in the day it sets the tone for the rest of the day and I'd really like to continue with that pattern while eating raw food.
I am going to taking the June Raw 30 day Challenge and want everyday to start off with the right tone! So, what do you eat for breakfast??

i start with:
whatever fruit in the bowl is the ripest and smells the most delicious
pop in the blender with 2 handful spinach 1 handful violet blossoms, (cause they were abundant in my yard) bee pollen coconut oil and sometimes some psylium. add water blend and go!
(rinse out the blender asap 1st) then go :)

Smoothies! Today I am drinking one made from frozen banana, cherries, raspberries, hemp powder and coconut water.
Sometimes I'll just grab a banana or two if I wake up really famished :)

I believe that break-fast is the most important meal of the day TO SKIP! :D I never break my fast till after-noon. I have more energy & am much more alert if I do not have breakfast. My body is still in cleaning mode from healing & repairing all night. Perhaps this is why I never get sick?

I usually have a smoothie or fruit. This morning I put green in my smoothie for the first time. One handful. I don't know if that makes it a green smoothie or not, but I didn't really taste the green over the berries and banana.

I have a simple barley powder drink. (organic raw dried barley powder) mix with water. Sometimes I throw it in the blender with some agave, carob powder, ground flax, hemp seeds, and ice for a great treat!!
Fresh fruit or melons (one or the other, but not both!) is always nice in the summer! I find, for me, breakfast is "the lighter, the better", but I have to have something!!
Eat what YOU enjoy!

I had made some pretty decent green smoothies in the past and I NEED to get going on that stuff again. It sounds like a lot of you guys enjoy those. Fruit seems to be a common theme also. I have had salads for breakfast and I enjoy those sometimes. Personally, I think I will try to plan for some good green smoothies! I also got some good ideas on what to add to them like the hemp stuff (I know that isn't the technical term....=) I usually get pretty hungry after drinking smoothies so making them more hearty might help me with that aspect.
Thanks for all the suggestions.....I better go shopping!

fruit or green smoothies.
Before I went raw, my healer suggested I ate nothing but fruit before noon every day. I never thought I would manage on just fruit as I was used to a proper cooked breakfast every day - but it is fantastic.
However I have at least 3 piece of fruit. 1 apple isn't enough, but 3 seems about right.
Somedays I am hungry from the minute I wake up, other days I don't want to eat until about 11am. I just do what my body tells me.

Ha ha, yeah the noisy blender can be an issue sometimes. I think I do pretty well not eating till about noon. As with some other folks it varies from day to day. I like hearing what everyone does though because breakfast was something I skipped all through school but now feel crappy when I don't get it. I wonder if the hungry or not hungry feeling in the am has anything to do with what time or what kind of food was eaten as a last meal. Any one have any thoughts on that idea?

but this morning --
I was driving up the coast here in Hawaii... amazing ocean view on the one side -- lush tropical forests with waterfalls on the other...
the sun was dancing and playing on the waves... shimmering and shouting 'GOOD RAWKIN MORNING' (to anyone that would listen! ;) )
and I was eating a beautiful -- ripe JUICY PEAR!! SOOOO sweet and lovely!
yep - that was my breakfast today - and a great way to start my Rawtastic day!!

I am so pleased with myself.
For a while now I have been having a pint of green juice for breakfast. It is something that I just drifted into without it being an intentional thing.
This morning I was trowing out some old diaries and noticed a note in the back of one that just stated the recepie for the Hypocraties juice and it is exactly what I am having.
I was very happy when I saw that. Your body will lead you in the right direction if you give it the time and the space.

Most mornings I start with a green smoothie and then have a few dates and almonds later on.
Today I had my first cereal!
dehydrated buckweat sprouts
banana
almond-sesame milk
It's kinda cool to feel like I'm eating a "normal" breakfast for once. ;) But I do miss my green smoothie this morning!

Funny! I have to keep my blender in the basement far, far away from my sleeping family. I can relate!

Every morning I have 32 ounces of Green Juice. it keeps me full all morning. I work on my feet all day. The recipe is on my blog.... its made of celery, kale, ginger, pineapple, and grapefruit juiced in the green star! Very hydrating. It wakes me up faster than coffee did!

I'm pretty boring. I usually just eat maybe a banana, then a little while later a pear and an apple.
For a few mornings in a row, I had a beautiful fruit salad, because I spent an hour or so one night cutting up a bunch of fruit for it while I watched a movie. It was soooo nice when I woke up to a sweet fruit salad...mmmmm.
I just picked up some raw cereal at my health food store, when I make nut milk I'm going to try it.

it's funny- before getting on a raw diet i used to wake up FOR FOOD! i'd be running to the kitchen and wanting to eat... now i'm not hungry at all. i eat slower coz i can't stuff myself as i used to (!) this is great:cool:
SO anyway- i usually make a smoothie of some sort- lately i have been adoring a chocolate smoothie- i simply blend frozen banana, orange, tablespoon of cocoa and maybe some honey..and OH MY!!! i'm in paradise :p

I don't eat anything but fruit in the morning - because what I eat in the AM also sets the tone for my day. If I drink a smoothie instead of fruit I am usually not hungry until sometime in the afternoon!:D

I feel like lunch and dinner are easy on raw food but breakfast kinda stumps me.
Wow. It's so funny how varied things like that can be. I find that dinner is the hardest meal of the day to do raw for a few reasons:
It's the end of the day, and if my honey is tired, he'll order a pizza.
Dinner is the "family meal" where everyone gathers around the table, and the pressure to eat what everyone else is eating is rough.
If I haven't prepared something earlier in the day, I'm too tired to un-cook, so I might just have to snag a slice of the afore-mentioned pizza.
If I'm tired and listless from a hard day's work at the Co-Op, I don't care what I put in my mouth because I'm depressed because the boss says things like "4 $35 bottles of liquid vitamins on our shelves is a problem," and "If you're going to have a problem with me, we can make some changes real quick."
Breakfast is easy! As much fruit as I can possibly stomach as is, no preparation. If I have time, I like to make raw pancakes to go with the fruit, though:
(From Ani's Raw Food Kitchen by Ani Phyo p. 78)
3 cups flax seed meal
2 tablespoons liquefied coconut oil
1/2 cup agave
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 cup water
Mix well. Form into patties with hands. Eat. They're great with mashed up berries on top.
Ani's book is a GREAT one to have if you have little to no time and/or no dehydrator. Most of the recipes just require your hands or a blender.
