Hello everyone. I have been lurking around for the past few months and is now 2 days 100%. It has been pretty hard for me with the job and other stress but i have decided to be strong again. Words of encouragement are greatly needed since I am a Health Inspector and inspect restaurants that it is hard to really sit down and eat well. I have been packing my lunch and fruits yet carrying food for 8 hours and equipment is hurting my back. Living in NYC is great yet eating salads from restaurants really is not me anymore. Any support will be great.
P.S. I have all the raw uncooked books so preparation isn't a problem.

some easy, portable raw foods are apples, oranges, bananas, etc (other fruits that don't require knives) and nuts/seeds

You can do it. NYC is a great place to be raw!! There are lots of options. Just plan ahead, always bring way more food than you think you'll need and you will do great!!

Green smoothies. Easy to transport and chock full of goodness.

I live in NYC too and I find it to be great being raw here! I just try to eat simply, green smoothies, avocados, bananas, mangos, etc... I only eat salad when I feel like it, but I love greens in my smoothies and I use romaine lettuce to make guacamole "wraps". If you are interested in eating out, there are many places that either cater to raw or have raw and living items available on their menu. So far I have been to Raw Soul, Jubb's Longevity, Bonobo's and this health food store called Lifethyme. I plan on trying out this place called Caravan of Dreams tomorrow. You can probably do a google search to find out about more places where you can get takeout.
I wish you the best in your raw journey my fellow brooklynite!

Go for it. I was raw for 3 months but recently (3 weeks ago) slipped into SAD food. The first week was fine and I was beginning to think it was going to be OK. But after the 2nd week I have had constant headaches, haemorrhoids, and stomach pain. Ohhhhh!!!! Back into raw, this is a great site for encouragement and to keep you on track. I need all that help too. Annie

You Guys rawk!!!!
Thanks for the words since I do need it. Being raw is cool in NYC since there are lots of places to eat, yet primarily in Brooklyn or Manhattan..the two places I haven't worked in this week. I had to inspect restaurants in Staten Island and the majority of places to eat are SAD..
I did pack my lunch and snacks but once again the weight of my bag is hurting my shoulder.. This weekend I am going though my uncook books..9 in all.. and will do some quick meals. Having green smothies is a good idea yet I work in the Street and don't have any refrig. available. Sometimes like today we did 5 restaurants today in the space of eight hours..
I have eaten at Bonobo's..Actually did a report on their restaurant for my Academy class and ate at Pure food and wine but the last place I haven't tried. This is day three and I am going strong with all the temptations (sp?) but I think to my self, what a wonderful world...:D :p that we have that fruits and vegetables can feed me. I have already over-consumed so many vegan meals..overconsumed on Tofu so I am not missing anything except real nutrition. How can I be the wonderful Holistic Nutritional counselor I know I can be if my temple is polluted with the same foods my clients may eat?
Have a wonderful night..Peace
PS Starfire (which of my names?) yes..wouldn't it be wonderful to say ( Your food has to be discarded..instead of puttin it in a garbage bag..give it to the needy..Me!!!)
