I can't get raw almonds locally. All are processed. Besides that, the cost is pricy. I do like to make some desserts, but everything seems to be almonds. What is a good substitute that won't break the bank? But I'm not familiar enough with all of them to choose the right substitute.

Quite a few dessert recipes floating around on the board that use walnuts (ie RP's brownies) - you might want to check them out ~ Cathy

I bought Artisana's(?sp) raw cashew butter because it is cheaper than almond butter and it makes fantastic desserts!!! Try a cheese cake and use 1/3-1/2 the amount of nuts in the form of nut butter, soooooo smooth and creamy.... I have made 3 and was totally hooked after the first one. I used recipes and links from Carmella's blog:)
