Hi Everyone,

I have been on the raw food diet for about 4 weeks now...I am keeping a daily blog, so you can check that to see what I have been eating, if you want. But, I have been 99% raw the whole time. The only thing I have eaten that isn't raw would be the occasional Starbucks decaf coffee or a cup of Mate tea. Other than that, I am completely raw. I know I am so much more healthy eating this way, but the palms of my hands are rough and dry since going on this plan and I have NEVER had this problem before!!! I am wondering if someone has any insight into why this might be happening (I really doubt this is a "detox" related thing...) or what I might be deficient in? I appreciate any ideas anyone might have. I have been using coconut oil on them lately, but that, or regular lotion, don't seem to help, long term. It helps a little at the time I put it on, but then they get dry again shortly afterwards, or definitely after I wash my hands.

Thanks again for any help anyone might have.

Check out the thread on oil pulling (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=26797). Do you have enough oils/fats in your diet? Also, you could try using essential oils. Oh, and are you washing your hands a lot? cuz that could dry them out. My mom used to complain about that, since she's a nurse and has to wash her hands a lot at work.

This seems to be a common problem with a raw diet. It happened to me too. I have no idea what caused it but good luck finding out. I now eat a lot more cooked and the problem has gone away. That isn't the solution I suggest but it worked for me.

OMG!!
My feet, & elbows used to feel like sandpaper!! After oil pulling I promise you, they are so soft it is amazing. My hair, my skin, all of me is so soft. I don't even have to use conditioner any more, which for me, is a miracle in in itself. I highly recommend it to anyone.
I use the sesame oil, which is one of the (I think 2 or 3) it recommends)
Check out the oil pulling thread.

Thanks for this info! I will definitely check out the thread on Oil Pulling (can't imagine what THAT is? lol!) I am definitely not interested in going back to cooked foods.

Hi tracyjprez, I had this problem a few months back I thought it was because I was washing my hands alot due to working in Early childhood Ed. We make sure all the little hands are washed before snack they are 2 & 3, bless them. Anyway I figured out for me it was detox, I used to put the chemicals in our pool and always checking the PH with the strips ect. I was detoxing the bleach when I would wake up in the morning it smelled of BLEACH!!!. my right hand was worse but it was like sandpaper it was awful I hated it and it looked awful but eventually after a few months it just went away. I would use coconut oil to moisturize if needed but for me I pretty much left it as it was to let everything just detox out. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
Blessings
