View Full Version : Watermelon the best food for "BINGE EATING"..?
LightLover

I do think watermelon is the best food for BING EATING, when you look at the following combined aspects;
* taste;
* costs per amount/gramms (money aspect);
* nutrients per calorie;
* calories per amount/gramms (only 6 gramms sugar per gramm)
Only little negative point is they are not so easy to eat or "take with you food".
So everybody, SAD or not-SAD, eat these fellows in amounts that
gooses swallow, whenever you wanna eat till you are going to drop.:)
You are allowed to react, this is not a library! :D

Actually melons of all kinds should only be eaten with other melon. Other good things? It comes in it's own bowl; can juice it and enjoy VERY cold and/or throw in the blender and have MORE!!! I made two large glasses of it this a.m. Watermelon is woooonderful!

Really? Why's that?
I've heard melons are the best food to eat right before and after a fast. But you guys probably all know more about fasting than I do... I haven't fasted yet.

I haven't fasted in years!!! See no point in it.
In response to your question.. from David Klein:
Melon is over 95% water, has no protein or fat and therefore requires no detention time in the stomach, whereas all other fruits need some detention time in the stomach. So, if u eat a generous helping or melon with a fruit like banana which needs d.t. in the stomach because it has some fat and protein, the mixture will leave the stomach too fast for the banana to digest and some g.i. distress will ensue. If you eat small portions it may not be a prob. if you eat a generous meal of bananas or dates plus a slice of melon, that might cause a problem for most it probably won't....it's just banana with more sugary fruit juice. Test it out and see what happens. A banana smoothie with a bit of melon sounds good!

"Drinking my watermelon" right now! I freeze the watermelons that are not so sweet. Then I put the frozen watermelon chunks in the blender with a little water for a quick sweet cold drink! Satisfy me anytime! REally takes away the need for a cold soda!

Actually, I thought watermelon had no fat until I logged it into fitday.com. For 1/8 of a large watermelon there are 2g of fat in it! I was shocked!

Right on Revvell, a wise man once said, "Melon alone or leave it alone." I also head that 95% of the nutrients in melon are in the outter layer, so don't throw it away-juice it!!!

Not for me! Watermelon is the only kind of melon I despise. It's just so grainy. I can't stand to feel it against my tongue. Actually I don't eat any melons at the moment because they make me sick to my stomach.

LOL, I'm not the biggest fan of that pink fleshy thingy either. I adore cantaloupe but PINK watermelon I have to be in a certain mood.
I have juiced the rind before and OMG, intense cleansing. The seeds are great for the kidneys also.

Do you mean with outter layer "the light green part", just under the red flesh;
or do you mean the very dark thin part (rind?) that's really on the outside?
Which of these 2 can you eat?

that's actually not too bad.
You would have to eat quite an uncomfortable amount to get any significant amount of "fat calories". According to fitday, 12% of the total calories are of fat.
Much like lettuce. Many lettuces are 15% fat by CALORIE measurement (not to be confused with weight), but lettuce has such negligible calories that I'd have to eat it by the truck load before worrying about "fat", and by that time, fat calories would be the least of my worries ;)

the entire melon can go in your juicer, juice the whole thing, i was refering to the rind though, that is where the 95% of the nutrients are. jucing a watermelon rind is one of the best cleanses, only eat the flesh though.

I have not juiced it with the rind yet, but I do juice it with the seeds. From what I understand the seeds have a fairly high fat content. I'll give it a try tomorrow with the rind. I juice with my Blend-Tec blender, just pulverizing hte seeds to powder that mixes in with the juice.

I love watermelon...I misread that I could eat the rind so I put it in my Vitamix...now I'm reading where it should only be juiced...I don't have a juicer....is it okay to eat the rind....???? if not, why not???? I prefer the pink flesh but will try most things if they're good for me...
Thanks for any help on if I can eat the rind...

Preferrably eat organic rinds.
I read earlier that some people pickle them.
Interesting.
Wonder what they would taste like

Ha! I know, it just sounded to bizarre but I'd imagine they chop them up into pieces. I still cannot imagine what kind of flavor they would produe when pickled..........any takers?

Guilty pleasure: I'm sitting here eating watermelon with sea salt sprinkled on it. Why does salt make it taste even better than chocolate?

Oddly enough I never could get into that. I say oddly, because I used to love to pour salt all over everything. Watermelon, thankfully enough, was something I wanted pure and sweet.

Not ALL yet, some of the not-so-good melons are a bit pinkish. The REALLY good ones... the ones us squirrels prefer.. are red. :D

Watermelon is great to take camping. We were camping this weekend and took a big cooler with a whole watermelon, a cantelope and a honeydew - just slice it open and start eating - very convenient - and SO good on a hot afternoon!

Yes, I have heard of pickled watermelon rinds. I am sure that a google search for a recipe would yield a number of them. The only thing is, they are all likely boiled or something.
As for seeds, I see watermelon seeds packaged like sunflower and pumpkin seeds for a snack. People are sometimes brave and try to chew the whole thing, but I would think that the outside shell would be really pretty sharp to have travelling through the intestines. I see Israeli's eating a lot of all these type of seeds.

I stand corrected...'red' would be a better description as to the color of watermelon...sorry.
...I've always eaten the seeds, even as a little girl when watermelons had lots of seeds...just seemed to much trouble to pick 'em out....now, when I put my watermelon in the Vita-Mix I leave the seeds there, too....good???? I don't know...I've just always eaten seeds.

Yes, watermelon seeds are good to eat. They are packed with potassium, zinc and fat (the good fat). I imagine they probably ahve protein as well, but if you google "eating watermelon seeds" you can find some brief info about their benefits.
I like to think of the seeds as the great equalizer when blending up watermelon to counteract the sugar content, much like adding flax seed to smoothies.

mmmmm, I love blending up watermelon for a nice, cold refreshing warm weather drink! After 2 and a half hours of wandering around Manhattan in the hot, humid and sticky weather yesterday, I came home and had a big glass of blended watermelon. Oh the delight...
