So I have been having this dilemna when it comes to being fully raw; my veganism led me to eat lots of tofu (not really a fan of the mock meat stuff, but just tofu combinations like buffalo tofu, or marinated balsamic tofu, bbq tofu, etc) and I am having a hard time letting go of my desire to eat it. This especially happens when I decide to get a salad from Whole Foods because they always have such wonderful prepared tofu salads!

I was wondering if there is a raw option that is similar to tofu, I mean I doubt there is, but maybe there is something I could eat to appease that craving.

I'm still a little conflicted as to how I feel about tofu anyway, is there any research to support the negative effects outweighing the positive?

It's just so yummy :(

Dr. Jameth Sheridan says it's fine.

Especially if the rest of you is raw.

I'm a bad one to ask because I still do it sometimes too and enjoy it. I don't believe it's evil.

P.S. And take Mercola's site with a grain in some areas, honestly (since you'll be pointed to his site re: soy)

I have the same problem. Depending on the recipe you can try out different substitutes. For mock chicken salads, or anything where you mash soft tofu I use pureed cashews or macadamias with some pureed zucchini. As for slices of marinated firm tofu, I try to use eggplant or mushrooms. Also Alissa has a mock chicken patty recipe in her book that I have been wanting to try to sub for my soy chicken patties. I am beginning to think creatively about all this and it seems like you could sub any dehydrated burger patty for veggie burgers, etc... Good luck and keep trying things out!
