I'm in Newport News, a bit north of the JRB. The local Harris Teeter provides a decent supply of raw food, for when I can stick to it.

One person at work started making green smoothies after he saw me drinking them.

It is nice to know we are not the only ones out here....Have either of you found a local place for raw nuts, seeds and chocolate/and or carob? thanks

Nope, at least not on the peninsula. There are a few organic co-ops on your side of the water. They might have some of that. I typically order that kind of thing online.

If you're looking for flax seeds some Farm Fresh stores have organic flax seeds in the healthy food section. They might also be worth checking out for some of your other raw needs. They don't have much if any organic greens or fresh fruit though. I go to Harris Teeter or a store up in Williamsburg for that.

The Organic Food depot (www.organicfooddepot.com) which has locations in VB, Norfolk and Portsmouth has some of that stuff. I get cacao and flax seeds in bulk (which is much cheaper than buying 1 pound bags). Sometimes Farm Fresh is a good choice for staples but it's usually pricier.

I buy from them all the time. The owners son and daughter in law are friends of mine. Actually the business started out in my friends' garage before it go to be too much and her in-laws took it over. Now it's getting really big! :)

PS: I'm out in Deep Creek.

Hi, I live in northern New York at the moment but we are TENTATIVELY contemplating a move to VA.....down the road. It is good to know there are some rf's there.......We are going at this blind so any tips (on VA-not rf) would be welcome! I know this is not the realtor forum or job search site, just looking for advice from natives so we don't get bamboozled! My husband will soon have his counseling degree and wants to work for veterans and I am a "seasoned" special ed. teacher. At any rate, IF we go I want to be near the water!!!!!! (aka BEACH!) I am assuming astronomical $$$$ for houses so I may have to settle for a POOL!!!!
a wannabe native!

I'm over in the Shenandoah Valley - nice to know that there are raw fooders in VA - here in the poultry capital of the world it does not seem to be a very popular concept. But I do have a ready supply of bulk raw nuts at Grandma's Pantry . . .

I live in the Hampton Roads area. There are 5 cities that make up this are and they're all relatively close to the beach. I say relatively meaning within 1 hour or less. I live in Chesapeake and I'm roughly 45 minutes from the water front in VA Beach or 30 minutes from the water front in Norfolk. There are different 'beach' areas. I'm happy to talk with you offline about the area. I'm a native. Born and mostly raised here though I did stray and come back. :)

Thanks for the info. Danielle! I may just e-mail ya! Do you have a difficult/easy time maintaining your raw lifestyle?

So far it's been relatively easy. There are lots of places to get things from. You can get some higher end unusual items as well as your typical every day items. I don't buy everything from one place anymore! Lots of options as well as not being what you'd call 'mainstream' myself makes it easier for me to maintain a lifestyle that isn't 'mainstream'! :)
