Hello everyone:
I will be going on vacation in July for 3 and a half weeks and I was wondering if anyone had tips on staying raw while traveling. I will be staying with my former roommate so I will have access to the kitchen. I was thinking of buying a mini blender, is there one that is recommended? I will be staying in the Caribbean, I am hoping the wattage is okay. There will be no problem getting fresh fruits and vegetables but I know from living there that nuts can be very expensive, especially raw ones. Also, any tips on how to politely turn down cooked foods? I already know that may be a problem...
Thanks in Advance!

I've heard the Tribest is good. I believe Alissa sells it? I travel with my Vita-Mix all the time. And just politely say no thanks to the cooked foods. Folks tend to understand. Don't cave!

I just e-mailed my former roommate and let her know that I follow a special diet and that she should not cook anything for me. I know she probably wanted to make my favorites from before BUT I explained to her that it is for my health so people tend to understand that better.
I looked at the Tribest, I definately am going to try to purchase this before I leave so I can start my day with green smoothies made with fresh and local tropical fruits!

The only way I've gotten respect (or have felt like I'm not offending those cooking) is to tell them that I have a lot of health problems and that eating this way has gotten rid of these problems and that I'm so sensitive to cooked foods, if I eat them, my allergies, asthma, etc. will come back. Most people respect that -- some feel pity and tell me they're sorry I can't eat what they're eating. But I try to let them know that this is a GOOD thing that I know how to manage my health and there are plenty of raw foods to keep me happy.
How much can you bring with you on the trip? It really helps me to bring dehydrated sprouted wheat ers when I travel.

I can bring a good amount of stuff. I plan on packing light when it comes to clothes and I am going to bring a large suitcase that will be checked and then a small carryon. Any suggestions on food to bring with me while I am actually traveling? I need to be at the airport at 5am to check in and I won't be at my destination until probably 3:30-4pm.

Do you have a dehydrator? I have made the Happy Cow Burgers and they travel wonderfully. http://www.therawtable.com/recipecoll/burger.htm The pancakes travel well also.
Maraw's pancakes! They freeze well and are oh so yummy, even without any agave or sauce over them.
Makes roughly 12-15 pancakes
Ingredients:
1 C Brazil Nuts
1 C pecans
4 large bananas
1/2 C almond milk
1 date, pitted and soaked
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. sea salt
Cream:
1 1/2 C Cashews
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 C almond milk
3 orange segments
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 dates
1/4 C agave nectar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
pinch of sea salt
1 mint leaf (optional)
Preparation for Pancakes
Place all ingredients in a food processor and blend until very smooth. Pour onto teflex sheets into circle shapes and spread to about 1/4-3/8". Allow to dehydrate for about 9 hours @115 degrees. Flip onto mesh screen and dehydrate another 2-3 hours. Serve with cream or agave nectar.
Preparation for Cream
Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender and process until smooth and creamy. Pour over pancakes and enjoy!
Alissa's fudge balls for popping when a snack attack happens. The famous RAWvolution onion bread is great too, then throw on an avocado, 'mater and sprouts and you got yourself a meal! How about once you're there sprouting? Using a nut bag.

Thanks! Those are great ideas! I really need to plan ahead for this. I think I am going to have to get up at 2:30 in the morning on that day to be at the airport at 5am!!!!

Have raw will travel! It's easy to prep ahead and then it's ready to go.
OH yeah, Carmella's little mini pizzas travel well too. Then there's always Alissa's Angel Hair Pasta and Marinara once you're there and you can WOW them!!!

LOL! I just saw that my Cybersitter made "Crackers" look like "ers" because it thought I was writing about drugs. :D (Just disabled it for awhile, so I can write at will).
You're going to be gone much longer than I've ever had to travel, but my most successful raw trips were when I dehydrated away beforehand and then gave myself daily rations so I could space out what I'd prepared. Since you'll be gone for 3 weeks, you may want to ziploc up a weeks worth in each bag instead of doing 21 bags. But I had daily gallon sized bags for each day with some fresh foods that would last a week w/o refrigeration (apples, bananas, etc. -- but it sounds like you won't need to bring fresh produce) -- then I also dehydrated things for quick energy like mangos, fruit rolls, etc. and made a few batches of vegetable crackers and a few fruit crackers.
Both of my cracker recipes are variations of Alissa's crackers, but they go something like this:
Veggie --
2 c. sprouted wheat
1/2 c. soaked flax seed
seveal celery stalks or 1-2 cucumbers (for that cool ranch taste)
carrots
parsley or basil (1/4 or 1/2 bunch)
a bit of onion or garlic (if I overdo it, it's no fun)
sea salt
Fruit --
2 c. sprouted wheat
1/2 c. soaked flax seed
3-4 apples
cinnamon
pumpkin pie spice (or nutmeg, cloves, ginger)
Adding peaches is really great too if you have any -- I've also added in blueberries before too -- and you want most of the apples really chopped up into a sauce, but it's good to have some chunks of fruit in with the cracker.
This is my answer to my love for graham crackers -- another really yummy sweet wheat cracker.
My veggie crackers taste slightly different every time, but I love them all. The fruit ones always have that wonderful flavor. I just love smelling them while they dehydrate!

I definately won't be able to bring fresh produce even if I wanted to since I am travelling internationally. They would make me throw it away at customs. Actually my mom snuck a mango from Kenya through customs just so she could give it to me! LOL thanks mommy!
All your recipes sound great! Thanks! I have access to a full kitchen and refridgerator so I think it should be not that difficult to manage. And I really would like to pick up the blender so that I can make plenty of green smoothies. I know I will probably feel like eating pretty light because it will be the dry season and it will probably be around 95 degrees everyday.

I can't live with out my magic bullet!! I use it many times a day! I have traveled with it. They now make a cordless one, I plan to get one for when I travel or take to work. Works in seconds!
I love my vita mix for larger and other jobs.
