This diet is raw vegan and sushi is raw fish so if you were to follow "this" diet then no, you wouldn't eat sushi.

Here's some info on sushi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sushi

Real susi is not raw the word susi means "with rice"
and I as a chef who makes lotsa susi will NEVER give it up.
I eat it 1 to 2 times a month. but thats all the non raw I will do.

remember its not a diet its a choice!

I have made nori rolls with avocado, sprouts, julienned red bell peppers, cucumber, etc. I used a recipe from a raw book that included a "filling" made from tahini, garlic, onion, unpastuerized miso, etc. There's also a recipe in Alissa's book for nori rolls. You can find raw nori and it works just as well as the toasted nori commonly used.

I've made raw vegan sushi twice for my extended family that includes both rawies and non-vegans; everyone loved it. They had me rolling sushi for over an hour and even then not a single piece was left! :p I am a sushi lover so nori rolls are a huge treat of a meal for me. :)

I bought some nori rolls a few weeks ago, but I have no idea what to do with them. I didn't get a bamboo sheet. Then again, in my younger days I was able to roll doobies with just my hands, and isn't this just a big veggie blunt?

I think it's fine to eat raw vegan sushi rolls here and there - that bit of rice won't hurt you. I eat them freely and love it!

But I hope people aren't eating raw fish... ew! So bad, all around!

LOL! Hilarious! I can't roll either too well, if I remember correctly. Yes, kind of. You even wet it to make it stick! So you should be okay. Thanks for the laugh!

LOL :) The first time I made raw sushi at my mum's house, I didn't have a mat and I just made do. Fortunately I grabbed some mats in Chinatown for a buck each and brought a couple over the next time for mummy and sis in law. But rolling without a mat is totally doable, just takes a little more effort.

YOU CAN USE SERAN WRAP FOR YOUR MAKISU (MAT USED TO ROLL MAKI SUSHI)

And yes I do eat the vegie rolls but I do eat 4 to 6 pieces of nigiri (rice with fish layed over it.) I just love yellow fin, bigeye, and eel. I try not to I really do but I have failed every time!

doing better though I usually eat all fish even rolls

One of the restaurants that serves raw dishes here in Portland serves a raw vegan sushi using shredded parsnips as the 'rice'. It tastes pretty good!

I don't really want to have to read about people eating eel - makes me feel ill to think about it.

This is a RAW forum!

I have made raw California rolls - I think the recipe was from Jennifer Cornbleet's book. They were good.

Yes I prolly should do that.

I had to watch a clip on foie gras (goose liver ) in chef school and I sarted to turn at that moment.

Then on my own I saw chickens on egg farms.

Then cows.

I am no longer a chef in a restaurant nor do I cook for my wife much any more(trying to get her to come over to "the darkside as she puts it").

But to be honest

I did not start raw because of the animals ; it never really crossed my mind I was doing them a favor. My reason was health.

But you are right it is so cruel what we do to animals.

I will not eat fish next time!

It's possible that the actual seaweed is raw, but what ingredients are in the "special sauce"? I was looking at a carton of that same salad in an Asian market today, at that's what the ingredients were....seaweed and "special sauce." I'm thinking vinegar and sugar, for starters. I need to do some research on that, because I would love to make a raw version, or at least a non-sugar version...because I love it too...but I don't even know what kind of seaweed it is.

I used to eat and make sushi all the time. I now make only raw vegan versions of it. There is an incredibly easy and super tasty recipe in Alissa's book.

Seaweed salads in restaurants are usually not raw. The seaweed they make the rolls out of is toasted. The seaweed salad can be toasted, and the ingredients in it definitely are not raw. They use sugar and toasted oils, not to mention they dye the seaweed to make it look more "green". When dining out at a Japanese restaurant, I opt for a cucumber salad or a veggie roll wrapped in cucumber. If you are not a purist, have them make you a veggie roll wrapped in seaweed. A little toasted seaweed won't kill you. :D

trinity082482--the photos in your blog of your recipes look so good! Do you care to share any of the actual recipes, or where you found them? In particular the nori rolls and the flax bars. I don't care for the nori roll recipe in Alissa's book, and love sushi.
We just cheated and ate at a sushi restaurant last night, but thinking about those poor fish I ate makes my tummy ache! I don't crave any other meat, just fish, but I'm trying to stop eating the poor things.
