My local health food store sells Salba seeds. I bought a bucket of pre packaged servings, so I knew how much to eat at a time. I used my first pack with my hummus. It was good. No flavor in Salba seeds.. and it is supposed to be really good for you. I am hoping to notice the benefits and I will keep updates on it. Maybe its time for me to start a new blog? :D

I also read 1/4 cup of salba gel ( which is salba mixed with water until geled)
replaces 1 egg in any egg recipe.. Neat eh? ;)

Interesting. I hadn't heard of them before but I just looked them up. Will have to look for these tomorrow. Thanks!
I believe they are chia seeds, no? If not then in the same family.

Yes, Salba seeds are merely white chia seeds. It's the Canadian brand name for them.

Do you know if there is a difference between these and regular chia seeds? My health food store ordered some chia seeds for me and I got them today. There are some white seeds in there but mostly they are black. The guy at the health food store did research on them but couldn't find anything that listed a difference and the ones labeled as chia seeds were a lot cheaper.
I tried them in a smoothie that I gave to my daughter but she found it to be disgusting. Personally I think it was a psychological thing because I ate some of the seeds and they had no taste whatever to me. I also think I didn't soak them for long enough. I noticed a lot of gel had accumulated at the bottom of the smoothie.
I found something online that said to soak 1/3 cup in 2 cups of water for 12 hours in the fridge and then to stir to mix and break it up. Was supposed to form a total gel with no seeds left.
My seeds are soaking. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them.

I love chia seeds!
to make good chia gel, mix the seeds with water (or other liquid), and stir every minute for the first 5 minutes, then twice more in the next 5. Or, you can put it in a jar with a lid, and shake it fairly continuously for a few minutes.
It works like a pudding, or a thickener, or just to eat! We like it with just a touch of agave.
