Hello everyone, I have noticed that some of the dehydrated foods I purchase in stores or restaurants are very heavily seasoned. I am always on the go and forunately living in NYC, I can pop into several health food stores or grocery stores and grab raw snacks. So yesterday after I got out of work, I had an hour until my dance rehearshal so I needed to grab something quick. I was in the mood for something crunchy so I found some raw snacks by Didi. I got the pignolia pizza crackers and the lemon crunch balls. I started eating the crackers and was like "Whoa this seasoning is crazy! " But I proceeded to finish them(there were about 4 small ones in the package) because I needed the energy to be able to get through rehearshal. Boy was I wrong for that. I was sitting on the bus on the way home after rehearshal feeling so bad and thinking "why didn't I just get a freakin' apple or banana???:( " I felt dizzy and nauseous the whole night until I went to bed and then woke up feeling the same way for about 30 minutes. Now I feel fine because they are "out of my system". This is the 3rd time this has happenned to me. Once it happenned when I got takeout at this raw place and the food tasted VERY salty. And then at one of my favorite raw spots in the city, the veggie-nutmeat patty makes me feel queasy about 30 minutes after eating although I think it tastes phenomenal!
I think it must have something to do with the seasonings used because when I eat very plain dehydrated foods, like maybe flax crackers or bread with maybe just a little sea salt added, I am fine. Does anyone else have this problem?

I always season "lighter" then what the recipe calls for. Dehydrating intensifies the flavors. But I've never had the same experience as you. Glad you're better!

I haven’t had that experience with pre-packaged foods on the west coast (the food I found has been pretty good), but I do have to be careful when dehydrating something. One clove of garlic too many or too much salt can break a dish. I forget dehydrating is not cooking and the flavors don’t evaporate or get "cooked out".

Yeah, I think people are thinking since they are using all natural seasonings, it's okay to put alot in and that it can only make it better but I am here to say it definately does NOT make it better. Maybe this is my body's way of telling me that it loves green smoothies, fresh fruits and veggies and I should lay off the pre-packaging for the most part. Although I am a sucker for raw desserts likes puddings and ice cream! One of my fave health food stores makes them fresh daily. Unfortunately I had the most heinous raw brownie (pre-packaged) yesterday, I took one bite and put it right back in the bag...Blech!
