Hi everyone,

I could really use some help here. I am 6 months pregnant and I still can't eat salads. I am having such a hard time with supper because I don't know what to eat. It seems like all my tummy wants is fruit but after eating all fruit all day I would like something different for supper. I am gettin gvery bored. I made Yani's chili last night but I made it too spicy. I always do that too, I forget that the flavors intensify as it dehydrates (I dehydrate mine for 4-5 hours and it gets all thick and chili like.)

Anyways any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure why my stomach is still so sensitive this far into the pregnancy. I tried to have a salad tonight and I couldn't eat it. Ugh! So frustrating. I used to love salads.

Thanks guys!

congrats on a raw pregnancy!!!

what sort of meals do you like? flavors and such. . .

i love "pasta" with zucchini and carrot "noodles" either spiralized or sliced with a vegetable peeler- very fresh and pretty topped with either a pesto sauce (basil and nutritional yeast or pine nuts and garlic), a cream sauce with nuts or flax and miso, or a tomato marinara sauce and some sliced peppers or mushrooms, and any sort of herbs you like. . .

also raw sushi is a definite favorite, there are so many options!!! rice made in the food processor with celeriac root, or sweet potatoes, or jicama seasoned any way you want, rolled in untoasted nori with miso, and sliced veggies like avo and cukes. . . or kelp "tuna" or "salmon" or mango and banana for sweet sushi. . .oh the possibilities!!!

do these get you started at all?
i love soups and pizzas, simple wraps with large lettuce leaves and "refried beans" made from sunflower seeds and spices. . . or huge green smoothies!

I would make burgers and crackers to have around for times like these.

Hello,

Thank you both for your ideas.

For some reason nothing sounds good to me. I ended up having an orange for supper after not being able to eat the salad or the left over chili.

I can't seem to handle smoothies either. Not even the just fruit kind. My tummy has been so weird!

Thank you for the suggestions. I used to love eating raw sushi. I also used to like making tomato bread and eating sandwiches with it. Normally these foods would have me salivating over them. My stomach is just blah though.

Thanks again for the suggestions. It really means a lot to me.

Awww...I know how it is when you're pregnant and things you once loved, you simply cannot stomach! When I was pregnant with my last child (waaay before raw came along) I could not even stand the SMELL of pancakes and those were my all-time favorite!

So, while I know you're bored eating the same ole stuff, just try and take it easy and eat what raw items your body will allow - hopefully it won't last the entire duration of your pregnancy and soon you'll be able to bear consuming something other than just fruit for variety's sake...but this could very well just be what you and baby need right about now. What is it about the salads...is it the actual veggies or is it the dressing? Maybe your body is rejecting fat at this time and maybe you could just nibble on the veggies with a squeeze of lemon juice on them or alone. But again, if tummy only wants fruit for now, then just give it fruit until something else seems appealing and won't make you feel sick to think about or attempt to eat!

OH...and if you can't do smoothies, perhaps your body doesn't want any complex combinations at this time - so maybe a simple, one-fruit sorbet or banana ice cream?

while i'm not pregnant, i am currently in a phase where not much appeals. . . but the market had organic strawberries on sale, so i scooped up a basketful of them, and suddenly i find myself savoring delicious strawberries nonstop since last night. . . just plain until i'm satisfied, or this morning i cut up some banana and mango, and mixed all three together, it's heavenly.

sometimes persimmons call my name and i eat two or three and am so happy with the taste and sense of sweet fulfillment!

maybe something like that will happen to you?!
just out of curiousity, are you craving anything, raw or cooked?

Hello!

Thanks to both of you for your ideas and words of comfort,

Rawkinlocks - I make my salads with just the lettuces, 1/2 avocado, tomaotes and some vinegar. No dressing to speak of. I think it is just the veggies that aren't appealing to me. Another thing I have noticed is that if I wait to long to eat it makes me sick. I need to eat little things all day so I don't get sick.

Blacktulip - I just noticed that you live in MDI! So that means you are not that far from us as we are inland Maine. How neat is that? Seems like I am finding more and more raw people in Maine, which is so exciting. I too find that eating simple foods is what I like best. I usually will eat 2 oranges for breakfast, a couple more for lunch or some fruit salad with pinapples, bananas, and coconuts, and then oranges (again!) for supper or something like sliced strawberries with a little agave on it.

I have a ton of bananas and frozen strawberries in the freezer so maybe tonight I will make some ice cream with them!

Thanks again.

that's very cool. . . i grew up in hampden actually and have been here on the island for most of the past 7 or 8 years. . . it's really great how many raw fooders are in Maine ( i heard that raw potlucks in augusta are drawing close to 50 people for the events!) and more and more are interested in it all the time.
by the way, your dogs are beautiful, i looked at the site!

the strawberry ice cream sounds mouth-watering, i hope you find it does the trick!

Blacktulip -

Thank you so much for your sweet words about our dogs. How very nice!

Where can I learn more about the potlucks in Augusta? We live just outside of Augusta and I would love to be able to go to a potluck!

Thanks again.
