It is a fact. Everytime I drink a green smoothie, I feel so emotional afterwards, LOL! I mean, I could cry at the drop of a hat, so-to-speak. I get really sad for some reason and I just want to be alone. Also, to add to the puzzlement, I feel weak and tired, too. What a picture. So, to stop it all from happening, I eat cooked oatmeal or something....

Has anyone heard of such a thing...so weak and emotional.
Its very hard to get thru.

thanks for listening and for any advice given.

Detox!

Ya gotta feel it to heal it. Let yourself go through the emotions and find a way to make them something you learn from or just release...but ya gotta let them out!!

After you do, you will feel like a happy kid...better than you remember. I speak from experience. Don't miss out. Let yourself clean out physically and emotionally. The benefits that you seek are just on the other side...that's why you started raw right? Claim what's yours!

Oatmeal is very calming. It takes time to detox.

When I eat lots of green smothies I tend to detox more. One of my common detox symptoms is being irritable. It could just be detox.

I sometimes feel very connected to the planet and to my food if I drink fresh juice. It is a wonderful feeling.

actually, this post really helped me. I've recently started a diet made up almost exclusively of green smoothies, and I've been crying my eyes out (very unusual for me). I forgot about emotional detox. Thanks for the reminder, Wendee.

Hypnocmt. Thank you for your advice. I just seems like I am feeling it and NOT healing it, lol. I mean, the more smoothies I drink, the more moody I become and it just seems like it goes on forever. How long can someone endure such hardship? Wonder what I am detoxing from by just drinking greens?

Shirleyh.Thank you for your adivce. Oatmeal IS alot better for me then sourdough bread and jam I suppose!

Rawvegan4health, Thank you for your advice. I am sure it's detox, glad you posted!

iamacranberry, thank you for your advice. Yes, I could imagine the affects smoothies can have on a person, it's awesome.

Broccoli, Thank you for your advice. The smoothies have greens and fruit, and maybe a handful of nuts.

Raw believer, Thank you for your advice. It's good to know I am not alone! Glad my post was of some help! :)

Wendee - have you read Victoria Boutenko's "Green for Life" book? It explains green smoothies. So worth the read. I say keep on drinking them and before you know it, you will "feel" them and your SAD (sad) detox will be over with.
I feel overjoyed, happy, in one with Peace, glad to be alive after drinking my GS's.
Everyone is different.

Rawvegan4health, I hear you, I too get very irritable. Just this last weekend I was !00% raw without really noticing (was travelling and packed all raw food!), but I did notice after, I was a BEAR, so I have backed down to about 75-90% and am being a lot more patient(?) with my toddler, poor guy, he gets the brunt of grumpy Mom:( He is so sweet, he gives me hugs to cheer me up :)

I’ve been living on green smoothies since March 5th. I’ve lost 75 pounds and cured myself of a severe case of irritable bowel syndrome. I’m very pleased with my results so far.

The most difficult part has been severe irritability and hypersensitivity. I’m sensitive to lights, sounds, smells and I can’t watch anything intense on TV. I cry frequently which used to just happen during "that time of the month". The irritability is so exhausting. The sound of a voice, the sound of a phone beeping, or the sound of a dog barking just grates on my nerves and it takes a lot of energy to keep from behaving badly.

Honestly, I’m not sure I believe in “detox”. I’d be more likely to attribute it to withdrawal from cooked food and processed foods because it feels a lot like the withdrawal symptoms I experienced when I quit a 3 ½ pack a day smoking habit, or when I came off of OxyContin.

Whether its detox or cooked food withdrawals or something else not yet discovered, I figure I’m getting a heaping helping because I’ve eaten so much junk over the years. I’m fortunate in that I don’t work and don’t have any young children. If I’m having a bad spell, and they generally only last 5-30 minutes, I can go crawl into bed and pull the covers up over my head and hide out from the world if I need to.

wendee, me too!

it has made me reach for the cooked foods just to make it stop,
i am worried that i will be overwhelmed and that it just won't stop.
(being i know i have alot of unresolved issues.)
this is what is sabotaging my resolve to get & stay raw, time & again
but i keep on trying, so someday i am where i want to be.

good to know it's not just me.

hypnocmt, thank you for your sage words.

and valerie, you amaze me. great job on keeping on keeping on.

* chuckles *

This is not unusual at all. Greens are colon friendly which also has neutralizing effects on toxins plus there are deep emotions associated with the bowels. It's like an awakening.......;)

Myself, in the past, I noticed that the intensity of these emotions were between 10-12 pm . Tiredness often times is associated with the cleansing process and if you are eating green smoothies, attribute more so to the colon working inside.

Ever grunted while on the toilet? There's embedded emotions waiting to come out ( no pun intended ) ;)

This has been such a helpful thread. I can relate 100% to what all have you have shared thus far!!

It is really taking a toll on the relationship with my hubby sometimes. I feel so down, anxiious, irritable and I KNOW I need to get thru and not just placate my deepest emotions with cooked food.

I have a very difficult time letting go an being vulnerable, many deep seated insecurites that relate to issues in my childhood, and while I come across to most people as being very extroverted and "together", it is so not true!!!

Valerie, I am so proud of your accomplishments and it sounds like your partner offers a great support system for you during this time. You are making huge strides!

I also, feel sensitive to external stimuli- sounds, smells, etc. WEIRD...

Miss Linda, I have never really talked with you, but I have gotten much encouragement from your posts. You have such an exorbitant amount of knowledge and I really appreciate the depth at which you have shared your soul.

Isn't it helpful to know we are not alone in this? We are not crazy!! ha, ha. Well, maybe some of us are, but hey, IT IS ALL GOOD (my most pet-peeve expression!- hate it.)

Hey Rawnpawgirl , Great to see you here......

I'm curious, if you don't placate the deepest of your emotions with cooked food, what will happen? What's the worst that will happen to you?

Have you considered, since you have a beautiful gift of writing/typing, to use that to channel some of those blockages?

I learned for myself thru my former clinician, that most of our thoughts are in the past or future. It was thru mindful meditation that I learned to live in the present moment and observe myself like a scientist's would of a new experiment. Acceptance was challenging for me.

I realized that there was so much I was not aware of about myself. Why I felt this way? What just happened that led me to doing ABC. How did I succeed last week and not this week?

All this awareness has changed my thought process and ability "to do" in the now .....the process was unraveling (painful) and yet by golly, the opportunity to create a beautiful life!

Going back to green smoothies, nothing beats a good cry ;)

Just Crazy,
;)

vwinters - I'm impressed that you are living on green smoothies and you've inspired me to want to do the same. I have horrible eczema that is now spreading since I started raw 5 months ago. I am almost willing to do anything to make it stop.

I was just wondering how you have smoothies if you work. I could have one in the morning before I leave, but then I guess I couldnt really have another one until I got home from work. Or do you bring some to work? How many smoothies a day are you having?

thanks!

Whew!
if I add some fruit to the greens, I don't feel nauseated, weird, isn't it?

Whew!

I've had to eat oatmeal or cereal with my green smoothies or I get sick to my stomach. If I drink them alone, i get So nauseated I have to eat something heavy to quail it or I think I just may be sick, terribly sick! Now, if I add some fruit, I don't feel nauseated, weird, isn't it?

Oh Wendee, I'm so sorry that you are feeling that way but those are the toxins being released. That is classic detox.

Be strong! Get sick if you have to. It is offering you the vehicle to rid whatever is in there causing you pain.

If it continues, I would suggest searching out a naturopath to do NMR-neuro modulation technique- or muscle testing on you to check for allergies.

I used to react that way to garlic. Something in my tummy was hating the strong nature of garlic. Now I have no problem with straight garlic at all.

It will happen for you.

cheers! Liz

thanks for your support here. I was thinking allergies, too because I got itchy watery eyes. I am wondering if that was detox.
