I tried a new smoothie for breakfast - water, handful of almonds, 1 banana, 1 tbs coconut oil, handful of spinach, handful of green lettuce mix. Absolutely delicious. However, that was three hours ago, and I have a LOT of mucous in the back of my throat and am blowing my nose. Is there something wrong in the mix? The mucous amount is not good, correct???

I felt that a few days ago after a green smoothie, it felt like it does after I eat ice cream. I was guessing that it was the frozen bananas that I used, but I don't know. I had greens like endive, frozen bananas and rasperries.

I usually have mucous if my bananas aren't very ripe with lots of brown spots.

The bananas are very ripe. We had bananas that were very ripe, so I peeled and froze them. I use those for smoothies. This is the first time I used coconut oil in my smoothie. Could that be the problem?

This happens to me pretty much every time I drink a smoothie. Greens are very good for your lungs, so perhaps it's just causing you to expel excess mucous. Better to get it out, right?:p

I usually make a smoothie of greens (kale and other assorted), a peeled lemon, ginger, apple. I would have thought that combination would be more cleansing. That is why I am asking about the new combination today. Cool that it comes out, but just want to be sure it's not a reaction to something.

bananas always make me mucous-y if theyre blended

not so much if eaten whole though.

maybe this is the issue?

It could be that the almonds are just too much for that combo.

I'd say it's coming up from the lungs or in your nasal passages. I tend to release some great ones. I look at the color. If it's dark, it has come up from the depths. One time, after a cleanse with wheatgrass, I coughed up some lysol. I am in the cleaning business and before that was inhaling way too much lysol. I consider mucous a reward for my work. emotional and physical. bring it on......:)

That's quite a strong response, huh. Have you thought about omitting various items to see if it's one particular food that's triggering it, you know like an allergy experiment. Otherwise, congrats on getting your body to detox ;)
