a good replacement?

We'll be able to get them - underground. I'd bet.

Yeah, but it'll cost a fortune. It already cost a lot for them now.

I'm planning on buying as much almond butter and almonds as I can. After that I will resort to sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.

I already have me a connection. Some street rat who only goes by the name "Retto". Usually the deal does down like this...I head on over to the east side, carefully sneak down to a back alley behind 53rd street, and pop a twenty through a slot in the door. Fifteen minutes later, I'm handed a bag of the finest, freshest California brown you've ever tasted. These suckers actually SPROUT! I may have to find a new supplier, though. Word on the street is that the FDA is on to 'em. Maybe it's time I procure some "lighting equipment" and start a little plantation in my basement! ;)

Yo Andy... hook a girl up... will ya!

OMG you crack me up. That was too funny.

I'm afraid this is going to end up driving the price of almonds up. To get really raw almonds you'll have to pay twice as much... just like the cashews.

What did I miss here? No more raw almonds available??

All almonds in fall 2007 will be  PASTEURIZED!

I've already stopped using them. I guess I'm at an advantage that I did not have a repertoire of recipes using them since I am still only a couple months into raw.

 I'm outta the loop here! Why are they taking my beloved almonds away?!
Almonds have become one of my main food staples since going raw them and bananas. What is so dangerous about almonds??

Apparently, if left unpasteurized, they kill people at random.

Apparently, if left unpasteurized, they kill people at random.

yeah they dont want random deaths like that caused from natural sources.
Random killings may look like terrorist profiling or the like... or those sentators may just look like they are not doing their job and lose votes if they dont "pasteurize" everything.

theyd' rather have massive heart attacks and kidney and liver failure deaths in the thousands because at least they can make money off of the walking zombies they try to make us into.

and to make matters worse we should all "donate" our organs to help save lives. when that person will either recieve a SAD organ or continue to eat SAD anyway and destroy the good one they got!

tweety? Sounds like you're ditching the demons - you go girl!
How true what you wrote. Our health professionals (for the most part) are pathetic. It's a shame. If they were nutritionists, I mean living food nutritionists - think how healthy this world and planet would be. It'd be like something only seen in the movies. Utopia. There'd be no more wars - folks wouldn't be mean, everyone would be fed and happy.
< sigh >

and I JUST found out I could eat soaked, raw almonds in something without an allergic reaction for the first time in my life!

I'm stocking up after I re-check my allergies a few times.

When does it start?
I didn't read the whole thread :x

Will this new law concerning the pasteurization of almonds be applied to almonds still in the shell as well?

veganman

Hi Stina -

I contacted the Almond Board about this and they said that almonds that are still in the shell will not be affected by this. However, I know that someone else was told by them that they would.....

very frustrating!

I have been talking with farmers and am hopeful that we will be able to keep carrying raw almonds. We are keeping our fingers crossed!

I just don't get it when Taco Bell had an outbreak and so many people got sick they didn't even shut down for a day let alone change anything. In fact we stil don't know for sure what exactly the "bad" food was.

We had an outbreak on the spinach and well they took it off the shelves until proven safe.....but atleast it's back now. How is this almond thing any different??

It's sad that people die and yes if we can prevent we should but come on now you can't improve nature. It is what it is and that's all. My God remember mad cow disease noone outlawed eatting beef after that one did they?!

This maybe the test case, to see if the people will react. Just think if they PASTEURIZED all seeds, nuts, beans ect... hmmmm
