This might be a really dumb question but... I was in the paint store today and saw a paint strainer bag. It's used for straining out all the undesirables that get into paint after use. I don't know what it's made out of but I was wondering if anyone had tried it in place of a nut milk bag.
Just curious.

I've been looking for em, until I find it, I use cheesecloth. Its kinda messy and awkward, but do-able. I just finished a nice tall glass of strawberry almond milk yum yum :)

So, how does one disinfect these bags safe for food use?
I wouldn't think just soap and water would do it.
If the manufacturers knew the bags were going to be used for food, they may have made them food grade for saftey.... they use different chemicals to make food grade items as opposed to painting things... I would be leary, but that's just me, call me a clean freak, LOL!!:D
I use jelly straining bags from the canning isle. Works great and they are safe for food use, of course!

I'm pretty sure the bags are just cotton? I threw mine in the washing machine and they were fine. I think if they had any chemical treatment they'd A) smell weird and B) affect the taste of nut milks. They're also great sprouting bags!

I attended a raw cooking class at Whole Foods and the instructor used the paint strainer bags, she recommended using them.

Sieves still leave a 'grittiness' as they aren't as fine as cloth, but some people don't mind.
I use cotton squares I've cut from old sheets, or pillow slips, I'd never spend up big on a nut milk strainer!

These are really great bags. I used to strain my clay mixes with them. They take a lot of abuse and keep on working.
