Hi all,
I am in the middle of coming off a fast and incorporated spirulina in my juice today. I cant believe how delicious it was!
I definitely plan more GS's in my everyday diet and would like to add this extra boost.

For those of you who use Spirulina, did you notice a difference in your energy? I know greens are important in our diet, but how does Spiru rank on green power? Is this something I should see as a staple in my raw-food diet?

thanks!

i DO notice a major difference with spirulina. I'm still playing around with what amount is right for me. There is something deeply satisfying about it, and the massive protein content feels good to me. If I want something hearty - spirulina hits the spot. Generally I have more energy and I'm less hungry. Haven't done it consistently long term to see major differences.

I'll say I've noticed a difference! Heck yeah! BIG TIME! Plus I truly believe incorporating that daily helped me heal my non-functioning thyroid. I use a tablespoon daily. Good stuff!

I love taking spirulina in the morning with my smoothies or when I'm desperately hungry at work, I mix a teaspoon with some water (YUCK! - But it works :D )

I can concentrate much better, more alert, have more energy and so on. Its like brain food. My favorite is a spirulina smoothie with a fresh pineapple.

Major energizer and hearty tummy filler. I can go for hours and hours on a spirulina smoothie.

I think it keeps me feeling very strong, and chilled out. It just feels like a very grounding food. I have eaten it for years sporadically. I always come back to it.

I like it in my green smoothies. I have to mix it with something else, although I know some people justtake it with water. I'm a wimp, I guess. I gotta have some berries and bananas with it! Yum!

It's also great in a "power bar" if you grind up nuts and raisins and honey...then dehydrate.

Smoothies just feel so fresh and IMMEDIATE in their effects though!

i NEED the energy! This is the first time i started incorporating this in my diet. did prety good with my first try in the juice today.
yeah i think im gonna have a GS for din tonight and add more spiru to it.

Strawberries or a mix of deep red and purple berries (healing, antioxidants)
any greens (Spinach or kale are great!)
lemon juice and a little zest (Cleansing, support liver)
stevia (less sugar helps acne) to taste
Teaspoon of spirulina (sometimes I use less depending on my tastes for that day/meal.

Option A-(peach or mango optional...great to add a teaspoon of vanilla if you do these)

Option B- ( Pineapple is also good!)

Option C (A bit of watermelon makes this even more cleansing!)

Option D - Add some maca or my fave, a blend of maca/hemp/flax. The maca's benefits to your hormonal balance are great for hormonal acne...which is a large factor in most adult acne. :)

How is everything looking by the way? Still seeing improvement with the topicals?

Wonder why spirulina makes me tired.

Stina - you might just not be a protein oxidizer! You probably do better with fats or carbs. Just a thought :)

Okay so I have revised my staple Green Smoothie NOW with Spirulina.
For some reason I really like the non-sweet smoothies... i still like the sweet ones.. but maybe on a daily basis i am trying to get more green veggies than just green leafs...

1 handful spinach
2-3 leaves red leaf lettuce
1-2 celery stalks
1/2 avocado
2 basil twigs (about 7-8 leaves)
1/4 cucumber
3 garlic cloves
Cayenne
2-3 tspns Flax Oil
1 tspn SPIRULINA powder

its quite refreshing.... i know a lot of the GS's are proposed w/ fruit... but what d'yall think?

How should the fruit benefit me in a GS?

i do fruits in them but only on rare occasion. is it just for the sugar content or for energy?

i guess im gauging it here for optimal energy and optimal satisfaction.... i dunno

I go on and off Spirulina, but it's a great super food! The best brand I've found is GREENS PLUS. Powdered stuff that goes into my green smoothie. I don't like the taste that much, but it's pretty much hidden in the smoothie. Greens Plus has every green superfood you can think of in the same powder.
It's about $29-39 for a large bottle and available at the healthfood store. I buy mine at the Vitaminshoppe.com and theirs usually costs $ 29 plus shipping.

The fruit is good for taste and quick energy. Also, if smoothies makes up a big part of your daily menu, you'll need the calories.

They also make a handful of spinach taste better!

The antioxidants and cleansing properties of many fruits are also worth smiling about.

Don't forget, you can also experiment with veggie-based smoothies rather than sweet fruits. Think along the lines of bloody mary's and celery cuccumber savory soup as a starter and then improv!

cool thanks Hypno... i see what you mean.

its not that I am anti-fruit... far from it in fact!!!
maybe it is a matter of picking the RIGHT fruit for me :D
Maybe bananas dont work for me in the GS? i'll have to experiement.

still, though... my cayenne/spinach/garlic/spirulina GS is awesome :p
you should try it... hehee
maybe frozen blueberries and cherries will work with that.
i like blackberries but the seeds are annoying. and strawberries arent as sweet.

i am getting some Raw Cacao BUTTER to work on the Wolfe smoothie i saw on uTube. it is like a combo of cocoa butter, cocoa powder, maca, honey, goji berry powder, cayenne, cashew and coconut water... i wonder if spirulina would work in that! lol

since i did the MC, i am fascinated with cayenne  red as a pepper :D
it seems to jive OK with spirulina!! just like christmas

I found pacifica spirulina on ebay.

I saw them. These are tablets. I like the powder better. I think it would blend into a GS better. Tablets? I'm wondering how they are processed???
