My friend sent me this - and I have no clue what to tell her. I have been wanting to know this, too, though - I could afford to eat more seaweed.
I sent for the "family pack" of seaweed from Maine Seaweed Company last year and I can't figure out how to use it. The Alaria, digata and Kelp are VERY hard to chew even when soaking overnight. The Digata won't blend at all because it gets so slimy. I think they intend it to be cooked which of course we wouldn't do. Do you know how to use dried seaweed the way it comes from the sea? I hate to buy dulse when I have 10 pounds of good seaweed sitting here.

Can it be ground and put into smoothies or other dishes?

Hmm that's strange. When I have purchased Kelp etc, I would just soak for 10 minutes then put it in my green smoothie using the Vita Mix, are they using a vita?

I have powdered Kelp to put in things - but it destroys the flavor of everything I put it into. I also have many others - the chunks of dry kelp I just have to hold in my mouth and let them soften up for a long time and then eventually eat.

Maybe put the DRY seawead in a grinder and grind it first. OR sometimes I put my dulse (which is not fine, but chunky) in my miso soup...I sometimes eat it and sometimes don't...but seems like the flavor/vitamins/minerals will seep into your soup...and not actually have to eat the plant???? Just a thought.

she said it's really tough - even the vitamix won't touch it!?
So I told her to call where she got it from to ask THEM what they suggest to do with their product...
Thanks!
