If there is, can someone give it to me? I was wondering if it turns out as good if you don't cook the coconut, just blend it with water & etc. Thanks for your time and have a good fruitful day!

I'm wondering about Alissa's coconut powder and water?

Well that's and idea, but I would still rather be able to make it from a fresh coconut! It would also save me money and not having to worry about coming in, in time! Thanks!

The Southeast Asian way of doing it is to mix finely grated (mature) coconut meat with water (50/50 ratio), squeeze out the coconut milk, and strain it. You can't use young coconut for this.

WOW! I wonder if a soy milk maker machine would work. I bet it would. I'll let you know - cool beans! Thanks!

I doubt the soymilk machine would work. But what do I know? I thought about running chunks of mature coconut meat through my power juicer too, but I was afraid it would break my juicer!
This video shows you how to make coconut milk.

Melindaxl, in this other thread http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=24457 I tell how to make coconut cream. Post 1 also has a link to a video that demonstrates how to open a mature coconut. Posts 7 and 8 show pics of the coconut milk being made. You may want to add more water for a regular milk like consistency. To use as milk just keep the jar in the fridge and shake before pouring. It will separate form sitting.
I drink homemade coconut milk often and love it. One medium size coconut will make a quart of very rich milk or 2 quarts of thinner milk, however you like it.
Just to avoid confusion:
open coconut, remove husk, and peel brown inner skin with veggie peeler
blend white part with distilled water
strain, squeze the milk out real good
keep in glass jar in fridgeenjoy,

Thanks everyone for all of your help! I've been reading how great raw coconut is for the body and I was wanting to think of a way to not just put it in my diet, but a way my family would have it in their diet also! My family eats SAD and I'm trying ways to fit good healthy foods into their diet! So maybe I can ease them away more and more from the bad foods and get more and more good foods in their diet! I love coconut milk, and it would taste great in smoothies and juices! Thanks again! Have a fruitful evening!

How do you pick a good coconut? I opened one today, it smells sour! It's in the fridge to return to the store now. I somehow expect a sweeter smell from it, or am i wrong? I opened it easily enough. Dh was rolling around laughing at me, but I did it.
Is it bad?

I've read that you make sure there is plenty of coconut juice inside the coconut by holding it up to your hear and shaking it to hear there's plenty of coconut juice in it (the more juice in it, the more younger it's suppose to be)! Plus make sure the coconut isn't damp or wet, that would mean it has been damaged by a crack in the coconut! When you crack open the coconut the thicker the meat is the older it is also! That's just what I've read! Anyway that's the way I always pick my coconuts and they all seem to turn out good!
Well have a great raw fruitful day!
