I don't think that they are considered raw.

No, but it is a living food. :p Its fermented soybean paste. Lots of recipes on this site use it. Do a banana search for miso...I looove miso :)
Miso soup... YUM! Easy and sooo good. Also great for digestion!
I have made a walnut meat recipe from Russell James (http://therawchefblog.com/lasagne-recipe/#more-117) He uses miso in it.

my mom and i make miso! and there are lots and lots of recipes for uses. We like cut cucumbers and eat with miso, also you can make a great miso tahini dressing and marinade! i bet that they would go great in those goddess chips too! if you are making crackers, add a dollop to the mixture.
we just made our miso last month and now have to until september to even try it. if you do make miso, save the juice that forms on top, that's REAL tamari!

Miso tastes to me like those little SAD orange and/or red balls of soft cheeze that were covered in nuts and put out as appetizers at special occasions. Really tart and salty and tangy. I loved those at parties, etc. Miso is my friend. (LOL)
