I thought I would ask this question here because I'm probably not the only one going through this on this forum.
I started doing the raw diet because mainly I was hoping to overcome low energy, depression, and lose weight. I've been raw for 6 weeks (about 75% raw, 25% cooked vegan). Anyway I've lost a lot of weight, and my addiction to sugar is no longer an issue (praise God), but I'm still very low energy and very depressed.
I know it will not happen overnight, and I've heard that for people addicted to sugar in the past it takes at least 3 months of eating all natural food for the endocrine gland to be repaired enouph to produce abundant energy. I have no problem sticking this out, because I plan to eat this way for the rest of my life.
But I am just wondering if anyone else has gone raw for the same reasons and how long it took for them to see results. Also I would like to know if there is any particular food that might really help with the depression.
I have 2 kids, and I can't afford to sit home all day and be sad, and not have any motivation to do anything at all other than stay in bed all day. They need me and this is breaking my heart. :( :(

Penny,

Don't give up! May I suggest trying 100% raw for a few weeks and seeing if you notice a difference? For me there is a huge difference between almost raw and totally raw, especially with moods, sleep patterns, etc. Try lots of green smoothies, fresh fruit and veggies, etc. Even the smallest amount of cooked food can impede your body cleaning out all the cobwebs. :)

YES agree.......... 3 after weeks 100% raw my 15 years of chronic pain and depression was gone. Its been almost 5 months and I have had STRESS to the MAX - but no pain or depression! Green superfoods/oils etc and exercise really made an impact on my depression.:D

Here is an older thread I started and have updated off and on......It states 6 weeks on here my depression was gone but that was after 3 weeks of 95 % Anyways I diidn't see the same results at 95% raw as I did after the 3 weeks 100%. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=24528&highlight=no+more+painkillers

I actually was 100% for a while, but I am a nursing mom, and I was losing my milk. The only things I was eating cooked were black beans, brown rice, and ezekiel bread. My milk came back immediately. Then this week I cut down on the cooked food again and tried to phase it back, but my milk started dropping again fast. I guess I just need the few extra calories.
I can't wait to just be 100%. I'm working on it. Thanks so much for the hug.

By the way, sorry for the redundancy of this thread. I saw that "thru her eyes" is struggling with the same thing as me. I noticed we posted 4 min. apart. That thread has encouraged me too.

Hello there,

I healed from depression and anxiety attacks and anxiety.

I would definitely drop the ezekial bread. Grains can wreak havoc with brain chemistry. You might want to check out Dr. Graham's book "Grain Damage". Also, experiment with eating less fats and a lot more fruit.

Wishing you all the best,

Audrey

Are you deficient in Omega-3 Fatty Acids? That is a big cause of depression.

Thanks everybody for your encouragement. I'm going to lay off the grains and go back to flax crackers.
I THINK I get enouph omega 3's. I put lots of flax oil in my smoothies. ANd I drink young coconut water everyday. Other than that, I eat mostly fruit. If I am short on anything, it's probably greens :( .
It's good to know so many have overcome these problems. I am so glad I have so much support here. I don't know if I would be making it raw without you guys.(((((((HUGS)))))))) back to ya.:o :o

Penny,

Definitely get on the greens train. If your body is depleted of amino acids, it can TOTALLY be affecting you. I really recommend a fantastic book called The Diet Cure by Julia Ross. She also wrote The Mood Cure. But I have the former, and it goes deeply into amino depletion and how it can cause depression. Basically your body needs to start manufacturing its own aminos again, so maybe you need supplements in the meantime. Just a thought. Greens are an incredible source, though.

You've got a lot of support here, and as many hugs as you want!! :)
