Slugs!

Anyone know how to get rid of them? I am using Earthboxes and have had to replant my tomatoes (frost I think), and my peppers and lemon cukes. I've since disovered it was slugs and not insects that were eating the peppers and cuke leaves. Gah! Safer's Insecticidal Soap doesn't seem to do much for the slugs unless I spray the heck out of them as I see them. That means going outside every hour or so throughout the night and spraying them. That's what I've done the past two nights but I can't keep that up forever. Apparently they come out during the night.

I used to use little shallow containers of beer. But I haven't any shallow containers or any beer at the moment and don't want to buy it just for that. And I'm not sure that would work in the Earthboxes anyway, but it did work in a flower bed.

I've been told I probably brought on the problem myself by putting pots of flowers between the Earthboxes because I planted marigolds in there and slugs love marigolds. I don't want to have to replant again.

Turn over an empty ceramic pot - snails will accumulate there to get out of the sun, and then remove.

No beer, use 1 tsp baking yeast with 1 tsp sugar in a shallow dish.

You can also use copper stripping or broken egg shells around your plants - snails won't cross over it, so make sure all are removed from your plants first.

Regular table salt sprinkled directly on them.

Thanks! I knew of the salt but wasn't sure if that would harm the plants or not. I will try some of the other things.

DONT put the salt around your plant though!!!!!


salt kills all plants for many years (salting the earth was used by vandals way back to starve out there enemies thats where the word vandalism comes from)

That's what I was afraid of. That trick won't work then. I fear they've already eaten the cukes, even though I was checking them throughout the night. I don't see any more damage on the peppers.
