Hi everyone,

I want to share with you a lecture I went to tonight by a group/co. called Organic Athlete. The speakers were cyclists, who do marathons and such. Their group consists of vegans and the main speaker is a raw foodist. There was a lot of questions flying around the room.

I will try to list some of the questions posed and his answers the best I can

What do you mainly eat?
Fruit and vegetables, very little fat

How long?
5 years

What do you eat before training, or an event?
Variety of fruit

What do you eat to maintain energy during event?
dates, figs, sometimes blended up and put in a bottle

What do eat after an event?
Fruit, smoothie

Do you have quicker recovery time?
yes

Do you take any supplements?
B12 every so often

Any Superfoods?
No

Have you had any problems with your teeth?
No

Do you lack energy?
Only when not getting enough calories/eating enough or over eating on fats.

Any books you recommend?
Dr. Douglas Graham

So these were the main ones I could think of. I would say he looked on the thin side, but over-all healthy. I thought his eating Dates during exercise was interesting. I guess they're rather easy to just pop in your mouth while your riding, opposed to carrying around bunches of bananas.

Hi Blazin Jane,

I'm not sure what particular Book of Dr. Graham's he was referring to. There are several. I would assume maybe the 80/10/10 Diet. He didn't go into much detail but I think he probably bases what he eats on Dr. Douglas's theories. 80% Carbs, 10% protein, 10% fat.

By the way, thanks for being the 1 person who responded : )

I read through their pamphlet last night and it was very informative. Everything to how are bodies burn fuel, carbs, proteins, fats and some daily example menus.

Here is a sample breakfast:

16oz. Blueberries
24 oz. mangos (about 5-6)

181g carbs, 7 g protein, 3g of fat, 779 Calories

Lunch-
9 large bananas-blended with some water
293 carbs, 14g protein, 5g fat calories 1265

I thought this interesting because if I ate just the lunch I would be getting most of my caloric intake for the day and plenty of protein.
