Alrighty, every so often I get adventurous to try something new - not a recipe, but a whole new food.

I tried young coconuts - finally.
Kiwi's, oddly enough were new for me.
It was a bit scary to eat dates at first, as I thought they were scary :P

So I'd like some suggestions as to a new raw food I can try!

I eat a wide variety of the common known fruits and veggies:
Strawberries
Apples
Bananas
Pineapple
Mangos
Young Coconuts
Spinach + greens
Carrots
Tomatos
Nuts + Seeds (Almond, Walnut, Sunflower, flax, pecan, pine - macadamias are very expensive and hard to come by.)

Any suggestions?

You already have tried some whole foods that I haven't tried yet! You didn't list avocados! I don't think you can say you eat raw without atleast trying this green wonder food. Mix it with a banana....YUMMMMMMM!

Well obviously I didn't list every raw food I eat :)
I eat avocados at least a couple times a week :)

I also eat:
Avocados
Blueberries
Oranges
Onions
GARLIC (OMG I LOVE IT RAW IN SALADS. - am I crazy?)
Melons - canteloupe, watermelon, honeydew, some weird middle eastern melon that I don't remember the name, but it was like a cross between a canteloupe and a honeydew :)
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Jicama
Cabbage
Zucchini + Cucumber
Peppers

I have yet to try a durian, but I know right where to buy them. Perhaps I should try it. I'm terrified!

Starfruit! Mellow hint of citrus and watermelon flavors...but so subtle and so juicy crunchy. Great on salads, or floating in your punch bowl as when you slice it, it is shaped like stars! Looks impressive as a garnish on the rim of your sun tea or morning juice cocktail.

Young coconuts are AMAZING, rawererin! Not intimidating at all, and there are a bunch of threads on here with links to how you can open them in a lot of different ways. After I drink young coconut water I feel totally infused with energy. :)

Durian is, I think, an acquired taste, or not for everyone. To me, it tastes like vanilla custard that someone snuck garlic into. :p

I have never had a bad one...so I dunno. The ones I bought were on the yellow side, and had a faint fruity scent. Love 'em!

A few things I've tried lately raw and liked:

Kale - this is a leafy green that sort of looks like a cross between romaine lettuce and chinese cabbage (to me at least). It has more of a cabbagy taste but not as strong. The thing I love about it is that the leaves stay crisp even in an oily dressing. I sometimes make green salads with kale, celery, and fennel with a sweet-sour dressing of olive oil, ACV, and honey. Very nice and high protein
Fennel - this usually comes with a bulb (that looks likea turnip) and leaves that remind me of dill. It has a licorice-type taste but a very delicate one (at least the leaves - I haven't tried the bulb yet). I use it sometimes as an herb.
Daikon - this looks like ginger root and tastes like radish but with a much subtler flavor. I grate it in a salad sometimes.

Hope that helps!

Starfruit - gotta try that. Unfortunately I'm stuck right now in a small Midwestern town which doesn't have much in the way of fruits and veggies (let alone organic fruits and veggies). but I'll be moving next month to a much bigger city in Texas which has a lot better variety so hopefully I'll be able to experiment.

Have you tried Papaya? yummm yum yum.
Starfruit is good as well, I'll second that.
How about cherries?

I would say go for the durian, it'll be an adventure for sure! lol. I have wanted to try one, but can't find them in my area.

Shredded Green Papaya is my favorite salad right now. If you live near an asian market, then that is a good place to find some. Our store stocks freshly shredded everyday, but they also sell plain green papaya's for shredding too. They are long, (not sweet!) like spaghetti and very versatile! I like to eat them with cilantro, tomato, cashews, bean sprouts and make a lime/vinegar dressing with a little agave syrup and a dash of cayenne. YUM!! Try them as a noodle substitute sometime! Also, the asian markets sells shredded young coconut in the frozen section...so now I don't have to keep buying four or more coconuts to make young coconut dishes. (not that i would mind drinking four young coconuts...)

I actually got inspired by this thread to try Bosc pears (those are the ones with the kiwi-colored skin). Always buy either the green or the red, never tired the Bosc. They are very sweet and hardly sour, which, personally, I liked less (I like my fruit sweet and sour).

We just picked up some apriums... they are SO good! It's a tiny little fruit - 2/3 apricot and 1/3 plum. I could have eaten the entire carton - but my kids beat me to it, lol.

I been meaning to try these. I bought some once from a store and they were spoiled (dried up & full of knats). I have heard soooo many great things about these.

There is a couple of other fruits I eat regular, but I buy them at trade days and I have no clue what they are, but they sure are good.

One is green and when cooked taste like a potatoe but not starchy, raw it is pretty tasty.

And the other thing is burgendy, has white skin inside and these delcious clusters of burgendy berries that just burst with flavor in your mouth. Soooooo gooooddddd!
