i have struggled with going off proccessed foods and going raw, and staying raw. i have a huge sweet tooth and dates weren't cutting it, until i tried making ice cream... i braved it i was so scared! it turned out great, i made chocolate cherry icecream that tasted just like soft serve, wow bananas in a food proccessor really is the same texture of ice cream!

so i struggle because my bf works a fantastic italian restaurant and is constantly eating drive through food- he has no desire to go raw, but i'm getting better. this is my second day 100% raw. i can't wait to see results.

i'm polishing off a big bowl of diced veggies with alissa's italian dressing (i'm still on the fence about this one, and then i'm going to dig into my ice cream which i can't believe is guilt free! i have so much hope now, i really think i can make it....

It's great that you found something. I had trouble with chocolate cravings there for a while at first. I'll have to give the ice cream a whirl sometime, it sounds good. Believe it or not, I have never frozen a banana!

And you will! Over half of the battle is in the mind and it sounds like you are conquering that! Yeah I couldn't believe how much bananas had the same texture of icecream too. It is cool!

You can make ice cream in a blender. I used to do it all the time. In fact it came out better than the stuff I made in the ice cream maker. Daughter bought me one because she loves ice cream. I do not though so it wasn't of much use to me especially after learning that she is allergic to dairy and bananas and some other things.

Anyway... I would freeze the mixture (this was cream based stuff and not raw) in ice cube trays. Then after it was frozen, I would pop the cubes out and put them in the blender. I would then refreeze and repeat this however many times I wanted to get the right texture. 2 or 3 times seemed to be enough to incorporate enough air.

I used to make another frozen dessert in the blender as well. I used canned pineapple for it but I see no reason why fresh wouldn't work. And you could use other fruits like strawberries. Simply flash freeze them. To do this, place in a single layer and freeze till firm. Then pop them in the blender and whir them around. Add enough fruit juice to get the consistancy you want and serve. Very refreshing during the summer.

If you have an ice shaver, you can make sno cones by freezing fruit juice then shaving it and topping it with more fruit juice. You just have to make sure to rinse your shaver really well afterwards because the juice makes it sticky.

That's cool that you found another thing that works to get you through! I never eat real ice cream since going vegan, but I loved it before, so when I have the money to get a fp, maybe I'll try whipping some up!

rawererin - that is so good that you are perservering in spite of bf. Once he sees your glow and health abounding, he'll come about.
As far as the ice cream? There's a couple threads where you don't need bananas to make it. I too had given up ice cream for years, never really cared for it except as a kid I loved butter brickle as a once in a while treat! I made the Cherry Garcia the other week and it was very good. I even took it to work and had ice cream for b-fast - I mean come on, how cool is that?
Just take your raw days one day at a time. Your cravings will subside. Start drinking green smoothies with spirulina and/or Alissa's green powder. I have really staved off the raw chocolate since doing this. I mean I LOVE chocolate. In fact the first time I went to a Sam's club and saw the HUGE cans of Hershey's? I asked my daughter to hook me up to an I.V. to a can! Seriously - your taste buds will change. We weren't born craving SAD/CRAP foods. We were conditioned to like them, or should I say to get hooked on them. Sugar is a drug. An addictive drug. The longer you are raw, the more your body will crave good, healthy, living foods. You'll see. ;)

VFL! I am so glad you said that! So many people, after I went vegan and declared that any and all kids I had would be raised vegan as well said that it was not natural; that kids are supposed to eat hamburgers and meat and cheese and that it's "normal." So many people do not realize that we are conditioned to like certain foods! I am glad other people realized that.

magglepie - it's just like prejudices. Think about it. We all enter this world the same way. Unknowing, unaware, naked, not conditioned, not trained, or taught. Why is food intake any different then learning a language or a culture or prejudice? It's very simple...;)
Mama Earth offers us her foods, why do we need to alter them? They are complete as is.

Too true VFL. And of course change cannot happen unless people who train their children are open to it. Someday more and more people will become open to good changes in their lives.

if i make my icecream with completely raw ingredients, which i do, can i really eat a lot of it without it affecting my health?
i mean it is just frozen fruit and some agave right?

I would say YOU decide how much you would like to eat. And yes, the fact it's made with raw ingredients, which your body will appreciate and use much better then the heavy, dense, dairy-laden ice cream - have at it. When you get a tummy-ache - you'll know you've had too much. Seriously, if you want to eat a heaping bowl - got for it!
MY rule of thumb? Moderation as with anything. I have not gone "hog wild" because it's raw and I can eat a lot of it, right? I still maintain moderation. I guarantee the longer you are raw? You are not going to WANT to eat a LOT of anything. But you will know how much is too much or how much is just right.
I had a hard time with the guilt thing when I first started. I mean. I can have chocolate? Cookies? Brownies? That's crazy! Until I realized that it's good, living food. So have fun!
