where do you guys keep your dehydrator?
does it take up much space?
i'm looking at the 9 tray Excallibur....
thanks!
Hi,
I have an L'Equip and it works for me. I really like it. I keep it on top of my dryer in the kitchen. I make use of what space I have and no, it doesn't take up much space. I think it's smaller than the Exc. Sometimes my kitchen looks like a hurricane came through due to the trays ending up everywhere as I'm making recipes, exchanging trays, cleaning up, etc. but it's all good.

I hope you don't mind if I add another part to the question of where people put their dehydrators.
How do people keep the smell of what is dehydrating from filling the house?
Thanks for the opportunity to add to the conversation.
Have a great day!:)

my (current) kitchen is very 'cozy' :p ...but my excalibur 9-tray fits rather neatly, like a "custom built," into this space on a counter near the fridge. As for the scent of delectable dehydrating foods wafting through the air.. I love it!!! even the onion bread... For me, it stands in for the scent of bread baking or sauce simmering..:D
I do not know how to keep the scent in one place, but you could always use incense or the lemon air freshener they sell at the hfs.. or, in the warm weather, rely on open windows and strategically placed fans..but then, you might have to deal with a sudden influx of neighborhood children hanging around hoping for extra cinnamon rolls or cookies....;)

Mine stays on my counter in the corner. And I agree with Elizabeth, I love the smells wafting out of the D when I have yummy pizza crusts or onion bread in there...coming home from work to that lovely aroma is wonderful.

First - I love the smell! Like the onion bread going, or Maraw's pancakes with their nutmeg fragrance - why wouldn't you like that filling up the house?
Second - I've unplugged my gas stove, taken off the burners and put a table top (long story - had it left over from something) and put my dehydrator on top of my stove. It's very convenient.
Last - Alissa is coming out with what sounds like a very cool dehydrator. Attached door, light, colors! I mean how cool is that!

Sometimes your kitchen looks like that? Mine ALWAYS does. Baskets of fruits, hanging and counter top, sprouters sprouting grasses, bowls of nuts, this, that and the other! It's a working raw kitchen, that's for sure. There was a link with fotos of folks' raw kitchens. I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you for all for your replies. Don't get me wrong, I love the smell of delicious foods dehydrating, but I find the scent actually sticking to my clothing since my laundry area is right off the kitchen. I don't want to smell like food (even if it is delicious dehydrated food)

My husband has just completed a new peninsula in my kitchen for raw preparation. I even have a couple of shelves for dehydrators. Now I have more space for my appliances and the sink counter can be used only for dishes and preparing vegetables (the wet work). Neat.
But now with summer coming on, I am dreading the extra heat these dehydrators make. I don't want to keep the AC cranked so high to compensate. My husband felt he should rig something up for outside so it would take them right out of the kitchen, but Iam all for convenience. Besides I am sure it would attract bugs, animals and kids. Anyone solve the problem of the heat in summer?

Back in the day most kitchens were not attached to the house! I always thought that this was a great idea. Of course I was dieting and thought I would not make as many trips! :D
