i hear a lot about medjool, but what about standard califonian dates, is there really a difference in flavor/texture.
which date should i order?

I'm not sure what you are referring to as standard Californian date? They might very well be medjools.
ALL dates are good. Others will say they like this one or that one better, I like them all. There was a post about all the different kinds that are out there. I'll see if I can find it.

Oh you're welcome! The last link I sent you, I'm going to print that out and put it in my raw food library for a quick reference. Happy date shopping. I've never met a date I didn't love! ;)

i'm learning to love them, my mom adores them, and most of the recipes i like call for dates, so we'll see how it goes....
Before "the date people (http://www.datepeople.net/)" ran out of dates for the season I picked up a sampler and it is so great to have such a variety of dates. As Lucy pointed out, dates are all delicious but I'll tell you, it's so nice to try so many different ones. Some are sweet and chewy while others are more firm and caramelly (I made that word up LOL). They have different textures, sizes and tastes but they all have one thing in common... they are all SOOO GOOOOOD! I have yet to taste a date that I didn't care for.
