Hello everyone,

I have a question, i seem to have problem with any raw food that are like a meal since that i had a bad cold couple weeks ago. It lasted three days but i was very sick and couldn't eat. I can eat green smoothies, fresh fruits, or single vegetable such carrots but anything else such raw crackers, raw burger or anything mixed, is giving me a feeling of getting sick. I was ok before i got the flew, do you think it means that i need to detox and doing like fasting. I am kind of doing this by the way i am eating now. I would like to get back on the normal raw food but my stomach seems to be sensitive. This is like my body adapted to eat green juice, fresh orange juice, etc and it doesn't want any combined food. I am hoping this is only temporary.

Any suggestion???

Thank you

I'm a newbie myself - so I'm not sure - but could this just be detox symptoms you are experiencing? Listen to your body and keep it simple for now. I hope you feel better soon! :D

I am so worry about fasting but i guess this is what my body needs.

I am worry because, i have heard of those yoyo diet where people would do like a fasting thing to loose weight and it would kind of miss up their body.

Raw Angel Mom-
I have been reading an excellent book by an author that may be able to help.

"juice fasting and detoxification" by Steve Meyerwitz
http://www.sproutman.com/books.html

I found his site, he has been around since the 70s!!!!
Check out his Bio, he's got a pic w/ David Wolfe

He advocates raw vegan diet, but he also advocates vegetable broths for liquitarian cleansing/fasting. Broths are cooked, but hey, what are ya gonna do with all that pulp if you dont have a garden to compost?
You can make a delicous veggie broth by boiling the pulp in water, add 1/2 onion 1/2 lemon & spices if preferred then strain.

He covers topics from 1 day fasts to 2 weeks and beyond, knowing when to break the fast, colon cleansing and a vast other topics. You can also consider a 1 day fast on a weekly basis but wont go as deep in the cellular cleansing. After a year, that adds up to 52 days of fasting.

His other book is on food combination & digestion. I dont know if that is strictly based on raw but this may help with your stomach sensitivity.

Knowing if you need a fast....only you can honestly answer this question based on your intuition, but I would encourage you to read.
The positive/negative effects on the body depend if the fast was done correctly or not. Yo-yo dieters may be found more in the SAD diet than RAW because of their food addiction from the chemical compounds in processed and cooked foods.

I really dont understand how someone could mess up their body on a *fresh* juice fast, there are too many testimonies claiming the benefits.

good luck!

Raw Angel Mom - my body TOLD me it needed to fast. I was actually craving it, and how weird does that sound!

Some people are more sensitive to food combinations than others. Can you make a zucchini pasta with pesto sauce? That's easy on the digestion, and 'meal' ish. I would definitely look into the food combinations that you are trying to incorporate...your tummy could be more sensitive for a while after a bad flu...or your body could just be adapting and telling you that it doesn't need the 'gourmet' anymore and that you are good with the simpler stuff. Most long term raw fooders end up there anyways. Tho not me... I go ga-ga over the crepes and pizzas ha. I'm thinking after I break my fast I will transition into the more simpler way of eating with the odd gourmet meal thrown in.

Raw Angel Mom... Welcome to this site! :D As for fasting, that may not be the only or best path for you. It sounds like your body is in process with some healing and detox. Perhaps you can just continue as you are... keeping what you eat simple. Also, your question may be a good one for the Raw and Living Food Discussion area of this forum. In regard, to what you're experiencing.

If you're interested in learning more about fasting, there is a thread you can scroll down to in this section... called 'Fasting Support' to read about a variety of fasting information. Perhaps just adding some juices to what you're doing would be positive for you... without an all out fast. Lastly, if you do choose to fast... shorter fasts (1 day or a little more) can also be healing. Most of all, trust what feels best for you... in what you do. :)

Ah thank you for your suggestion.

Star1919, i resonate with what you said, i will take it easy and just go with the flow for now. Yesterday, i manage to eat a Raw Thai Noddle (saude made with almonds, honey, and spices), so it did ok with me, but today, i might just go with fresh orange juices and see for the rest of the day. I guess that i need to clear up and i will just follow my body.

Love to all of you
