Hi everyone,
I'm really new to raw. I want to make raw hummus but can't seem to by raw gabanzo beans. Where do you all get them? Do them come dry or fresh. Thanks for all the questions and answers on this board. It's been helping me a lot!

Ya, buy her seeds, or buy them in the bulk section of your store or healthfood store. Dry beans of all sorts should be available. ps if youve never tried it 'raw hummus' that is. I would say make a small batch to begin with, to see if you can tolerate them on your tummy. Most people have a really hard time with raw beans, most people substitute with nuts or seeds for raw hummus recipe's.:)

I think most people sprout their garbanzos. I live in AZ so we have a local food store that is ethnic to the Hispanic community and I can get the raw green garbanzos in their papery shell. Something to do while watching TV if you have time. At first I didn't like them but now I love them but I can eat $6 in one sitting.

Do a banana search on this - lots of people (myself included) do not like the taste of raw hummus made with garbanzo beans. They're quite different from those you buy in a can.

There's a fabulous recipe on this board for zucchini-based hummus - I'm addicted to the stuff!!!!

My stomach has been out of whack for a day and a half now since I had my first raw garbanzo hummus yesterday. I would highly recommend even mixing the two recipes so there isn't too much of the raw garbanzo if you have even a slightly sensitive tummy.

Otherwise, I also got my garbanzos at sproutpeople.com. Love those guys. The shipper comes as "The Schlepping Department." They're funny folks. Shipping tends to be expensive unless you're buying a lot at once, I must warn. I ordered a whole bunch of stuff, and it all seems to be fresh and easy to sprout.

Hope that helps.

yes, raw beans, even sprouted garbanzo, are rough. Unnatural, it seems...
