Hi!

I KNOW that an all raw diet is great for the skin, and, I am wondering if anyone knows of some specific fruits and veggies that would aid in skin elasticity and overall health?

Thanks!

Lauri

You've answered your own question - all is good. I'm sure others will pipe in here with specifics. For elasticity? Do dry skin brushing. THAT is excellent.

I find green smoothies- with the fruits in the smoothie being very sweet fruits and over-ripe bananas, and the greens being tender baby greens (I get an organic field green mix) to work incredibly well.

Any foods high in silica; cucumbers, for example.
Also, horsetail and nettles (herbs) are high in silica.
Foods high in B Vitamins as well.

Best,

Make an avacado mask - it's delightful!! If you banana search, you'll find at least one recipe I posted.

I have oily, acne-prone skin and due to laziness and a bathroom remodelling, have only been using virgin coconut oil on my face. It's never looked better :D

Thank you so much for all of your replies!

My MAIN skin concern is my body, primarily my stomach. I am slimming down, and am terrified of having that hanging sagging skin that can happen when weight loss occurs. So, while slimming, I want to give myself the strongest chance of having my skin bounce back.

I might try coconut oil on my face and bod, though! And, I LOVE all of the other suggestions, too.

I am thinking of juicing cucumbers, some dark leafy vegetables (w/something else to cut the strong flavor), and then maybe some smoothies w/blueberries, strawberries, and the like? (as well as nana's)

sounds like a plan to me. coconut oil on my face is wonderful, too. i use jojoba on my body..though its great for the face too i hear. for some reason i have it in my mind that it made me break out in the past using it directly on my face, but i think i completely made this up because its actually used to prevent acne. and the moisturizer i use has it in it and i dont break out from out. so basically im just weird and irrational.

i just love all natural oils, really. and green smoothies :D

If you are a juicer: carrot and green bell pepper juice does wonders for breakouts and the face. Juice about 3-4 carrots for every 1/4 of a pepper depending on how large of a glass you would like to have. Also lots of water with cucumber slices in it.

put cucumber slices in water? Does the water help get the nutirents or something?

I've been eating a lot of vitamin C rich foods lately like Grapefruits, oranges, and mangos and my skin has never looked better. I think the stretch marks I had are fading. I've also been drinking a lot of coconut water.

As hypnocmt said, "tons, tons, tons of water"

The main reason people get baggy skin after losing a lot of weight is due to insufficient water. I was taught this at a weight-loss clinic once years ago.
Drink lots and lots of water while slimming down (and always!) and your skin should keep it's elasticity. Of course, all the other great suggestions already
given here can only aid and enhance the process.

Best to you and congrats on slimming down!

water flavored with cuke slices is very refreshing...
BUT
To get the skin benefits, eat them, or use them as a base for a mild smoothie. I favor blended cukes, mint leaves, lime and stevia (or agave)

You can also make a wonderful refreshing skin toner using one cuke peeled and seeded with 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey. Glend and put in clean bottle in fridge, then apply with cotton ball. ~ Cathy

ooh yeah...Love cuke toner. My mom used to use a fine grater and shave it down so she could press the "milk" out of it. Then she would blend it with glycerin and rose water (she had dry skin) and keep it in the fridge. It smelled amazing and felt really good. Cools a sunburn nicely too!

Majorly, delayed reply but...cuce slices in water is served at the spa/salon I go to in a big pitcher and I do it at home. It's very refreshing to drink but also eat them & juice them to get even more of the skin, hair, and nail benefits.
