A number of us have probably gone through this process when transitioning to raw. Not sure about you, but I don't have many friends who get excited about a donation of a half-empty bag of cornmeal...

Some suggestions for using non-raw products that are no longer fit for consumption:

Cornmeal (my favorite), Brown Sugar, or Granulated Sugar: Use as a facial or body scrub. Add equal parts olive oil, flax oil, almond oil, and/or grapeseed oil. Sprinkle in some rosewater or essential oils (optional), and use gently.
Table Salt: Rough skin scrub. Mix with olive oil and lemon zest, then rub on heels, elbows, or knees.
Dried Milk Powder: Luxurious Milk Bath (apologies to my vegan friends if this sounds absolutely disgusting). Pour powdered milk into a warm bath. Add some Unsweetened Cocoa Powder for a Hershey's Spa experience.
Yeast: Facial mask. Mix with water to make a thickish paste, then apply directly to face. Your skin will feel so smooth and firm!
Rolled Oats: Facial mask or soothing bath.

Any other ideas?

I like brown sugar mixed with a bit of oil as a shampoo. Sounds weird, but those grains of sugar really clean off the scalp when massaged into your hair thoroughly.

I almost never use shampoo, but then, I have naturally curly hair that would be dry as straw if I shampooed more than once a week. Seriously!

Dot, do you use any kind of conditioner with this mixture? I've heard lots lately about not/less shampooing and wonder how it works.

Baking soda is also supposed to be an effective "shampoo." Anyone have any experience with this?

I have curly hair and I use conditioner instead of shampoo. It is great..I can tell a big difference in my hair, it is even thicker and if I don't pick it,to make it fluffy, it has this neat "'ropey" texture...

I use granulated sugar and coconut butter as a facial scrub.. I have some yeast packets..I may try the yeast facial. :)

Blessings....

I used to try all these types of facial scrubs until hubby went on a rampage how I was always clogging the sink and shower drains with all my "guk". LOL!
