The Chicago Diner has been a stand by for Chicago veggie folk for many years. Their milkshakes, though not raw, are reason enough to bring your carnivorous friends out for a veggie adventure. Once they try one of these they will never be satisfied with a dairy milkshake again. The Diners shakes are rich beyond belief, and the chocolate variation is pure temptation in a glass. I am certain that serving it in the middle east would usher in an era of world peace.
For the raw foodists, the resto ofers a rotating menu of at keast two raw entrees daily, in addition to a generous selection of raw cheesecakes and a refreshing and filling raw apple pie. Moreover, they are quit ehelpful in allowing rawists to customize salads, smoothies, and other dishes to make them raw friendly.
At Chicago Diner, ingredients are always vey crisp and fresh and the portions are enormous, My fave dish here so far was the raw pasta primavera. The focus was on a medley of veggies- zukes, carrots, tomatos over a perfectly al dente textured squash pasta. On top there was a very tiny mattering of marinara whivch though very tasty, could have been even more delicious had it been present in greater quantity. Nevertheless, this was an excellent dish- comforting in texture and flavor, yet light enogh to be relished on the hottest summer day.
The Chicago Diner is a great place to bering your non-raw pals, as their cooked veggie menu is beyond extensive. Without a doubt it is some of the best vegan food in the country.
The atmosphere is super-casual. Most of the patrons are wearing workout gear, and artsy thrift-store garb. Prices range from $12-25 per person with drinks and a shared dessert. there is a small, but helpful (lifsaver!) parking lot located adjacent to the buiding. Low key all the way. Just be sure to either arrive early, or be comfortable with waiting for a table. The Diner is enormously popular with veggie and non-veggie folk alike.
