I made a blueberry pie yesterday. The recipe says to refridgerate for at least 3 hours to set the pie, but I checked this morning again, the filling still has not solidified. Is the filling supposed to be like liquidy?

Hi hungrygirl, (cute screen name :p )

I do not know what recipe you used, but, if there is something like psyllium or agar that was used to thicken it, you might want to scoop out the filling and reblend it with more of the thickening agent in it, and then re-refrigerate it. I have heard of others having to do similar things.. just part of the learning curve maybe.. :) I am curious what the recipe was. It sounds yummy, and I have been thinking I want to make a Raw fruit pie to celebrate the coming of warm weather...:D

Good Luck with your pie!!! I am sure it will be yummy and you will be hungry no more...;)

Yes, psyllium husks will help, but use sparingly! A little goes a long way. There are no mistakes with raw foods.

LOL..that is true, Lucy. You can always take it out if the Dehydrator even, re-hydrate it and start over.. :p I Love that!!!

I've only ever made Alissa's recipe for blueberry pie and it solidified everytime - due to the blueberries themselves! The blueberries actually form a sort of "gelatin" when blended. I even experience this when I make a smoothie that has blueberries in it...once it sits for a while or if I put it in the fridge, it gets really thick and almost solid where I have to vigorously shake it up.

So, what all did you put into this pie? Any liquid at all? It really should have firmed up for you.

I use the recipe in Alissa's book P. 484.

Crust:
2 cups of almonds
1/2 cups dates, pitted and soaked

Filling:
5 cups bluberries
2 bananas
1 1/2 Tablespoon honey

For crust: Grind almond unil fine, add dates and blend until smooth, then pat down into a pie plate

For filling: In fp, combine 4 cups of b-berries, 2 bananas and honey, blend untio smooth.
remove from fp and add in 1 cup of whole b-berries.
pour into crust
refregerate for at least 3 hours.

Note from recipe: This pie will solidify after a few hours in the fridge.

Now I notice it says here that the pie has a jelled blueberry filling. So I guess the filling is jell-like which is what I have in the fridge right now. Okay I'll dig in. Thanks for the tips, guys, I'll use your tips in my next pie.

How does it taste? Those ingredients sound like A LOT of food! Does it make a huge deep pie?
