I was looking for parchment paper and only saw wax paper so I bought that. I need to use it to line my dehydrator trays (I only have 2 teflon sheets). I realize now wax and parchment are not the same thing. But can I still use the wax paper? Or will the wax melt? Thanks!

Hi,

I tried wax paper b4 i got my teflex sheets and it was a disaster. I was trying to make a dehydrated cracker/bread and the mix just stuck to the paper. Maybe wax paper would be ok for something not so moist, but go for teflex if you can. Here is a good site to get them at ... http://www.discountjuicers.com/teflex.html

good luck :)

I use saran wrap and it works just fine!

I also tried waxed paper when I had a round dehydrator and my flax crackers stuck and were ruined. I do not think it takes much warmth to soften the wax in the paper enough to stick. I then bought parchment paper and used it and it worked fabulously. I have seen it in the baking sections of some stores...

Good Luck!!!:)

If you have a natural foods store such as a food co-op or Wholefoods, etc. - try those types of places for unbleached parchment paper as most of them will carry it as opposed to regular grocery stores. I used unbleached parchment for a while before getting the teflex sheets and it works great! Never tried waxed paper, though.

Wax paper, in my experiences, is awful. It sticks really bad!

Saran wrap may work, but I'd be worried about leeching, especially with the heat and all.

Teflex sheets aren't that expensive....

Thanks guys. I'm usually ok w/my two sheets, but I was testing out a cracker recipe for maraw and it said it made 3.5 trays worth. I ended up using the wax on the 3rd tray and just figured I'd throw it out if it didn't work. It only stuck a teeny bit so it was actually successful. I don't plan on using it again though...but I was already home and ready to make the recipe. I'll make sure to look for parchment next time.
