Valerie - Yes it is that simple. Everyone chooses their own exercise goals and what they want to do for exercise and then you post what you have done. The key is to just get moving and keep moving! A lot of people do daily exercise but do what you can do. Just make your own goal and follow through with it. For me I average between 3 to 4 days a week (because I am too busy with my schedule to find the time to exercise every day). So again just set your own goal of what you feel comfortable with and then commit to doing it! Hope you join us!

Val, you should look into an exercise ball. You can do your crunches on that as target both your upper and lower by changing your position on the ball. And best of all, you are not on the floor. You start by sitting on the ball and then slowing walking your feet out so that your back and shoulders are on the ball instead.

I'm in.
I'll be reviving my much-neglected yoga practice.
Since starting work last September, I haven't had time to do yoga - I was either at work or the kids were around demanding so much of my time I couldn't break away to practice.
I'm on hiatus from work (thank God) and able to concentrate on putting my priorities back in order. :)

Hi Damzlfly,
Good suggestion and I think I will try the exercise ball in the future. I know that some of them claim to be able to support up to 500 pounds. But I’m going to hold off for just a while as I’m concerned about injuring myself. Perhaps when I get under 350 pounds I'll give it a go.

Hi Valerie -- That's probably a wise idea -- I've used a stability ball for years and had one burst right out from under me while sitting on it at the computer. I probably weighed 140 at the time, but I think I stressed it earlier that day by bouncing on it really hard with my toddler on my lap (very fun :) ) -- but it showed me that even the "burst proof" balls do have their limits. Your recumbant bike goals sound great. Do you do it to music or to TV?

Whoops, forgot to post my workout for today and goals for the month of May.
My goal is to continue with my heavy weights/step cardio rotation that I've been doing the past 2 weeks to make it a 6 week rotation. I'm also doing a bit of yoga here and there and want to add in 20-30 min. of Pilates every other day because I did a bit of Pilates this morning and saw how weak I've become at doing it!
Here's what my weeks will look like:
M -- Step Cardio (an hour) + some yoga
T -- Back, Biceps, & Shoulders + Pilates
W -- Lower Body + yoga
Th -- Step Cardio Intervals (an hour) + Pilates
F -- Chest & Triceps + yoga
S -- 1/2 hour Cardio + Lower Body + Pilates
S -- Yoga
Today I did Cathe's Gymstyles Back, Shoulders & Biceps and some Pilates and yoga from the 10 Minute Solution. Felt great!

I would like to join this thread too. I am a really dedicated rock climber, but I have been resting from climbing for 6 weeks due to an overuse injury in my wrist tendons (I pushed myself too hard for too long without taking preventitive measures :( )
So the only excersise I can do can not include my upper body, which is totally depressing to me, but I have no choice right now. I decided rebounding can be a substitute until I'm completely healed. hoping to start climbing again this month though....
Today so far:
45 minutes of rebounding
Tonite: I did another HOUR of rebounding! Yeah me!
Welcome Raw Chicky! What kind of rebounder do you have and do you like it? What did you pay for it? I really want to buy one cause I heard of its excellent health benefits. And do you have a workout video that you do with it or do you just do your own thing?

I was looking for a exercise challenge link. Looks like I found it. I will probably be posting here a lot more as I have created a personal workout to push my body to it's limits over the next 4 to 6 weeks. It's raining outside which is too bad because I had some great exercises I wanted to try outside.
I'll be checking in later to post for today....
Let's MOVE it everyone:D

I am rededicating to my exercise regimin. I have 3 months until I have to go to the first of 3(!!) weddings this fall. And I am going to do the Fitter U program (which is 3 months long) once more. Last time I finished it I felt my best ever, and I wasn't even raw then (weight watchers). I have since gained 30 lbs on the SAD diet.... This time I will do it raw. The possibilities are endless!

Hi Valerie -- Your recumbant bike goals sound great. Do you do it to music or to TV?
Hi Loving Life,
No, not yet. But I'm only doing it for two minutes at a time which isn't very long. When I get up to 10 minutes or so, I'll be looking for ways to pass the time and then I'll see about getting some tunes working. Right now the bike is out in the garage. To watch TV in the house, we'd have to rearrange some furniture and bring the bike inside. My house is very small. Not sure yet how it will work out.
Exercise for yesterday:
10 minutes neck stretches
5 minutes of back and calf stretches
50 abdominal crunches
2-3 minute barefoot walk on beach
Stationary Recumbent Bike:
9 am: Time = 2 min., Distance = .33 miles
5:30 pm: Time = 2 min., Distance = .35 miles
So one of the things I was dreading about starting my recumbent bike riding was putting on real shoes twice a day. I hate putting on shoes. I have some slip on Birkenstocks that I wear when I need to go out and about and I’ve gone months and months at a time without putting on any other shoes. So yesterday I thought I’d try riding the bike barefooted and it was OK except for these stupid stirrup straps on the pedals. Well, Mary took care of that toot sweet. She grabbed a utility knife and sliced them suckers off. So it looks like I’ll be walking on the beach barefooted and riding my bike barefooted. It really increases the likelihood that I continue to do both things. Although I won’t get back to the beach until Mary makes it home from her trip again. She's back in Seattle at the hospital with a sick friend.

Hey Valerie,
barefoot walking is VERY efficient training for the whole feet and legs!! You can only get benefits of it:) So you dont need necessarily shoes.
Don't wonder if you cant do so much(long) like you can with shoes on, because walking barefoot is much more work for the muscles;)
My energy was BACK today:D
though I skipped yoga, because I slept too long...
left are:
3 hours work in my new garden..(oooooooooof... SWEAT)
arround 2 hours work with the horses
1 hour horseback riding...
dunno... somehow I am moving all day long:p

Punkspirit -- Those sound like some wonderfully exhillerating activities today -- and great exercise to boot!
Yammy -- Congrats on the 20 instead of 30!! That's better than what you thought you had to work with. Glad you're here to stay motivated.
Valerie -- Barefoot is best whenever you can -- you knew w/o knowing, huh? :) I like to rebound barefoot and do upper body weights bf, and of course yoga & Pilates, which would be harder otherwise. I just wear shoes for lower body weights to stabilize my knee better and step cardio.
LavendarJ -- Did your rain clear up? It's been raining here like crazy the past few days, but the sun has come out! (they say not for long though, but I don't mind -- I'm just glad to see it again!)
Morn -- My goals are to continue the weights/cardio rotation that I posted and to continue to tone and get stronger. My knee has problems and does best when my leg muscles are working hard. I'm already noticing a more overall fit look since I started this workout plan 2 weeks ago -- very fun!
RawChicky -- I love to rebound too -- WOW! 1 3/4 hours in one day!
This morning I slept in a bit because my 4 year old son came in during the night with asthma. He's fine now, I think it was due to the paint solvents my dh was using last night. So I did my Cathe Lower Body workout (Gymstyles plus the ball work from Pyramid Lower Body) and will have to save the yoga for tonight.
Ok, I finally got up the courage to weigh myself...I gained 20 lbs...better than the 30 I estimated I guess...I feel like I've lost 10 pounds just now! Haha. What a great start.
You are too funny! I got a good laugh!:D
Welcome and glad you are back to exercising again!
Ok I am doing the mastercleanse fast for 10 days and so my exercise this week will not be to strenuous. My schedule is also very busy but I chose to squeeze in a 1/2 hour bike ride. It was a little cold and now my ears hurt. I will more than likely stop at the gym tomorrow and work out but will try to take it easier than I normally do.

It has rained nonstop here since Monday which has caused me to wish I still had a gym membership.. at least then I could be inside. Oh well, had to modify my routine again and not do the outside jog/walk. I might be taking Billy Blanks out of the routine for the first 10 days; I'm planning on switching up every 10 days this month.
Hope to back on here again soon (so many deadlines and preoccupations this month)... I'll try to post as much as possible. I've got some great links to post in case anyone is like me (always searching on the net for some great at home workout exercises)... I'll post some tomorrow.

Once again, no jog/walk outside. I need to really focus on the jog/walk though so that I can be prepared for the "Race for the Cure" that a friend has asked me to join her in. I think I might check around at some of our gyms. Some of them are bound to offer a summer membership - that way I wouldn't be bound to a year long contract.
I think I might have to figure out something else to do with the Billy Blanks time slot.
Lavender - I just read that you have lost 80 pounds and are onto your next goal of 100. Wow this is incredible! please post some before and after photos. I am dying to see them!

happy saturday...
Morn-
I am going to try to put some pictures together and do a little online blog thing. The funny thing about it is that I am having a hard time finding "before" pictures, I have found 1 and I am looking for at least 3 more from right before I started raw. To be honest, I never liked myself in pictues and have always avoided taking pictures ... I'd rather be the person saying "say cheese" I think I got that bad habit from my mom... she never takes pictures. Look at you rollerblading.... That seems like so much fun. I did it once but I haven't really tried it again... I went with two friends and they took off rollerblading and I didn't see them again for about a hour or so until they made it back to the starting point on the trail:D . It was so funny, I could actually walk faster than I could roller blade. I should give it another shot in the future.

I took my nieces and nephew to see Spider Man 3 last night and my stomach dropped. The tickets cost $30 and then it was another $20 for the junk food that they begged for. Next time, I won't cave in and get them any snacks.
I had a talk with them and told them that I could no longer buy them snacks that I knew were not healthy. I told them that I was contributing to their unhealthy habits and that I am going to work with them on healthier options over the summer. I want to try to create summer fun that includes lots of physical activities for them.

Hey Hey Hey!
I just wanted to check in and say hello. I am about to start the strength training. It is amazing to see the transformation that my body is going through. I am working on my strength training - as a matter of fact I think I may be cutting down on my cardio and really focusing on the strength training. I say that because I couldn't get my dad's push mower started in order cut his grass:eek: .
I had to laugh and I was like wow... my arms are so weak. I know that my body is adjusting and rebuilding the old animal protein muscle with vegetable protein muscle. Needless to say, I had to call my twin brother and ask him to come over and start the lawn mower - literally. Well, this of course led to a stern lecture about how my body MUST have some sort of animal protein and how this meat protein is the best form and my body needs it and that's why I am too weak (blah blah blah blah blah blah blah:D ). I just listened because I wasn't trying to argue, I finished my outdoor workout and now I'm in the house and sitting on this computer but I'm am about to do some strength training.
Morn- how is your fasting going?
Val - keep on rawkin

Morn,
What a good cheerleader you are!
Lavender J,
I’m starting to think about my June exercise goals and if I want to continue to increase the bike riding or if I want to start adding strength training. I don’t want to do both simultaneously. So I’ll be interested to hear how your strength training goes.

I don't know if you realize it or not but walking on the beach is a great workout all by itself. It's way more challenging on the body compared to walking level ground
I am working on some cardio modifications (reducing).... but I am going on a nice long nature walk as soon as I get home from work (since the rain stopped)

I forgot to do my back & calf stretches yesterday.
I think I’m making progress on the stationary recumbent bike. I zoned out for the first time yesterday morning. Instead of continuously watching the seconds ticking by on the view panel I got lost in my thoughts for a short while and I looked down to find a minute had passed. I think that’s a positive thing. Afterwards, I played around with the panel and realized that instead of starting at zero then watching the timer to see when it hits four minutes I can set the time to four minutes and have it count backwards and beep at me when my time is up, which is exactly what I did yesterday afternoon. I also decided it was time to break out the tunes. So yesterday afternoon I did my 4 minute bike riding to the music of Fatboy Slim’s album ‘Better Living Through Chemistry’ playing on the boom box set up on the garage workbench.

Hi LavendarJ,
Soft sand walking is challenging but I’ve been sticking to firmer wet sand for now because I’m afraid of falling. But to tell the truth, I’ve haven’t been pushing myself to walk when we go the beach since I started my bike riding routine the first of May. Lazy lazy girl. But I’ll get back to it.

I am happy to see that there is a lot of moving and grooving going on! I am testing out my theory of cutting back the cardio. I trail walked yesterday for about 1 1/2 hours. Today, I'm not doing any extra cardio but I am going to stick to the same strength training program I posted at the beginning of the month- I'll also do some ab work.
Happy Sweating!

Okay it's all about the upper body with strength training tonight... I have revised my workout yet again (working on the less cardio theory).... So tonight I focus on:
triceps
biceps
back
chest
shoulders
I will also do some jump roping and some ab work and that's about it

What's your favorite LavendarJ? I like working the chest best, then shoulders, then back, then hmmmm -- triceps maybe and biceps the least.
No workout for me today. I slept in a few hours through my workout time -- wasn't sure why I needed the sleep, but I definitely did. After getting the kids to school and getting a few things done, I came down with a sore throat/flu-ish thing. Must be detox. I haven't been all raw lately and am just getting back to it. No fun being sick!!! Back to bed...

I've got to do something about my former chest...:D Some of my friends have lost tons of weight and they haven't lost anything in that area. I feel like I am regressing back to grade school days when I look in the mirror:D ... It's an amazing transformations... Padded bras are a regular now
I really want to work on my chest and arms.. lots of chest presses and squeezes and biceps and tricep extensions

Will we have a June thread?
I post on every board but this forum -and this is where I need to be MOST.
So, let me know. I will start next week, but I'm IN for June. Need to be. :-I

I'm going walking/jogging for a little bit today and then I am going to do some upper body stuff. Oh yeah... we are definitely having a June thread School... I think this is where I will commit to most for June... may not be posting much in the raw challenge for June- lots of deadlines and projects for the summer. My membership has ended now (had an online membership where I posted what I did on another site) and so now I can just focus on journaling everything I'm doing fitness-wise here next June.
Today, I was told something I have never been told in my life- a relative told me that I was practically anorexic and didn't need to lose any more weight. I was like WOAH... we laughed about it but I was just thinking... gosh.
My goal is to lose 10 more pounds which will put me at a 100 pound weight loss. I used to work out consistently 6 days a week (sometimes 2 hours each time)... I am focusing on getting back with my working out. The thing I really want to do is rebuild muscle. If I hadn't slacked off the strength training so much I would probably have development by now. So, I am going to be working on some serious strength training to build more muscle as my body continues to transition.
I think I am going to get a membership to a gym.. and at the same time focus on exercises that require me to use my own body strength. I know that this will help me to maintain and that no matter if I'm traveling or anything.. I will be able to do a complete body workout using my body - and so to be continued....
Also everyone... I'm going to try my very best to tie my twin brother down and get some pictures from him so that I can build some sort of before and after portfolio and do a blog type of thing. You know, it's too bad we are close in proximity... I would love to organize a fitness day where we would all do a group walkout and enjoy a raw food gathering afterwards..
Todays workout:
20 minute bike ride
10 minutes of abs of steel
Lavender J- Wow what a compliment! The whole aneroxic thing! Just remember if you are going to do strength training you may gain some weight back (of course it will be muscle weight and you will look fabulous) instead of taking off the last 10 pounds. But 90 pounds that is incredible! Congratulations! My friend gave me a compliment today saying he saw someone with blond hair with her blond haired little girl and thought it was me. Then he said she got out of the car and she was heafty and then realized that it couldn't be morn anymore because now he thinks of me as skinny. That is too funny as I don't consider myself skinny yet but I like that comment as opposed to being the fat girl. There is also a guy at work that is now calling me Slim. I must admit I like it!:D It gives me motivation to actually live up to the name! It will be a while though! The main thing is my husband is attracted to me again and that is cool! He said if I keep losing weight he will never be able to take his eyes off of me!

Thanks Morn-
It's still an adjustment getting used to a new body after being so comfortable with my overweight-ness (don't think that's a word:p ).... I need to be pumping out those chest presses you are doing... I don't know what to think of the girls.. wish I hadn't lost so much; when you lose a lot of chest you lose a lot of perk... but oh well, I love me and I guess this is the tradeoff after being overweight for so long....

Good Morning All
Today I will be focusing on my upper body. I hope the rain will let up so that I can do some cardio work outside.... if not, it's me and Billy Blanks
LavenderJ - I know what you mean about the perkiness. I have the same problem. I also am very weak when it comes to upper body strength and I think I have lost muscle tone because it is hard for me to squeak out those presses. I don't remember it being so hard before. I also had to go out and buy a few new bras because my old bras were so big and I couldn't adjust them up any more. It makes a huge difference having bras that fit!:)

Well everyone... today it's all about the lower body and i'm going to keep it simple and focus on squats, walking lunges, leg presses with the ball, and ab work... if i could get this stomach flatter then I wouldn't try to lose another pound.. for some reason i'm not very motivated but i know i've got to push on and keep my goals in mind...
does anyone know of any tried and true creams or methods that will really make a difference in stretch marks... i know we can't get rid of them but if only we make the appearance better somehow
LavenderJ
I have heard on other threads talk about this and I heard taking maca a few times a day significantly reduces stretch marks. But don't know for sure. Do a search on maca and you will find the discussion about it. I have the same problem.
Hey with losing 90 pounds do you also have any extra skin that hasn't reduced yet? My stomach is a problem area and my husband thinks a lot of it is extra skin.
We are getting geard up for June. For anyone interested in continuing for June, please see the new thread opened up. http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=27448

Morn-
Now that you mention it.... I guess my tummy could be taking so long to get flat because it was so used to being puffy and bloated from me being overweight.... i remember a lady at the gym telling me that my stomach would eventually firm up and that she had lost over 100 pounds and she was twice my age (i'm 36).... so I am going to keep on pushing and striving....
you know, losing a lot of weight is a real adjustment on the psyche but it's a blessing to be healthier despite the "battle scars"... going to research that maca tonight. i bought some body oil from the herb shop (brand name Weleda) ... a lady in the store was purchasing it and said that it really helped her over time, and smoothed out her skin where celluite was a problem... so I was thinking, it might work for stretch marks..... they are more noticeable now that I've lost weight compared to before when I was still overweight and some of them appeared due to the weight loss... yet, the journey continues

10 minutes of abs of steel
