View Full Version : Trying not to beat myself up

I had a small bowl of miso soup. I had maybe 3 oz at the most, but I feel so guilty. It was warm. I know, big woop (especially for a newby) but still. I also had a smoothie with a few dates. My diet has been really good over the past week but I feel bad over one small bowl of soup. I have the tendency to beat myself up over food in general.
How do you keep things into perspective?

Look at what you did accomplish! Forget the one slip up; concentrate on the majority of your actions, which were excellent.
It takes us all time to rid ourselves of our addictions to SAD. And we're all different.
Congratulate yourself for your healthy lifestyle. You're doing a great job! :)

I tend to beat myself up as well, and it usually ends with me throwing my hands up in the air, saying something to the effect of ... oh well, I already messed up, what's one more bowl, cup, chip, cookie, etc, and that one more (whatever) turns into another day, and another day, and another day. Not good.
So, this time I'm trying a new approach. Instead of striving to be "perfect", I'm going in with the mindset of doing what I can. Telling myself I'll probably slip up here and there, but it's *normal* and *expected* ... just get back up and keep going. It's easier for me to stay motivated if I look at it as "keep going", rather then "starting over". Starting over is hard. It's hard to get started. Once that step is taken, it's much easier to keep going with it. It's all a mind game for me, and after so many years, I think I've finally figured out how to beat myself at my own game - lol ;)
((((hugs)))) to you, and don't be too hard on yourself. It sounds like you're doing great!!

Thanks everyone. You're right its not the end of the world, I feel fine (it would be different if I felt crappy). The rest of the day was good - just trying to look forward.

The stress that you're putting yourself through is more damaging to your body than the actual miso you consumed. Be Happy!

I wouldn't call Miso a slipup. This is a board for raw and living food and Miso is a living food!
