Hi Everyone,
I would like to know about the experiences of anyone who has lowered his/her blood pressure with raw foods. If so, what did you typically eat? Did you make any other lifestyle changes to lower your blood pressure?
Right now I am taking a fairly low dosage of medication for my blood pressure. I just came back fromo the doctor's and it is still a little high 136/88-ideally I would like to go off meds.
I will be seeing my doctor again in three months and would like to make enough changes with raw food to astound her...
I am not very overweight, but could stand to trim up!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I will report my results in July!

Hi. I used to be on high blood pressure meds and have been struggling to stay raw for quite some time. I went 100% raw on Good Friday of this year. Started off @ 264.5 lb's. 16 days later I'm 22 lb's lighter! I'm also completely off my meds. God is great. Trust in Him. He has led you to raw. Stick with it. You can do it!

Before raw i was doing almost a vegan type of eating but I did each chicken every week. My blood pressure got better just doing that. No other meats or cheese. Since Raw it is better yet. I am 66 and my blood pressure was 126/62. That was just before i gave blood. Oh yea. Forgot to mention. I have been off my BP medication since before Christmas but it would fluctuate. Now it is slowly going down more but i have only been doing raw about 2 months.
My doctor did not even ask how i lost weight, how i got the BP down or even that i did lose weight. She prob didnt know cause at those clinics u only get to see them for a certain length of time so u r not a patient but a body.

Hi! I'm just about (today) to start taking blood pressure meds. I SO don't want to, but I'm having some scary issues so I have to. I'm planning on starting raw vegan this Wednesday (August 15, 2007). When you went off your meds, did you do it under a doctor's advice/help? And 22 lbs in 16 days!! Wow!!! :D

I saw my doctor almost a year ago. My blood pressure had dropped so much that she decided to have me stop taking the pills. In fact she said she would not even perscribe what i was taking. It had been a dif doctor 10 years ago that put me on them. she had me cut back to half a pill for a couple of days and then quit which is what i did. Our church has a nurse who is there almost all week and then 2 sundays a month. (she is a ministers wife at another church so we r lucky that we get to use her) My blood pressure has been dropping even as I have been getting older. Also my weight has been dropping along with it. Lose some weight and the pressure drops. Most times as u age the pressure goes up but from what i can tell it has nothing to do with gaining weight or aging. I think it has to do with our diet.
It might be best for u to follow your doctors orders but tell her/him that u r going to go raw and have a much healthier diet and that u would want to be checked on a reg basis so u can see if it helps and if it does that she would monitor u when u either cut back or stop taking. It does not take long to see a good change once u stop eating all that salt that is put in Sad foods. Make your own. Dont use much salt and eat raw raw raw and u will win the health battle and feel soooo much better.

Thanks for the responses. I did talk a little to the doctor about wanting to come off the drug when my weight comes down and my blood pressure improves. I didn't tell him specifically what I'm going to do tho. I got off to a good start by the way. :D
