i just found a great smoothie resource- gordon food service, it's a restuarant supply store open to the public- i bought two humungous bags of fruit, strawberries and peaches, so cheap for as much as i got! i leave them frozen for a slushy cool smoothie or let them thaw in the fridge for easier blending- i don't have a blendtec yet! they're not organic, but nobody's perfect right!

The peaches might not be raw though. Fruit is often blanched before freezing. The strawberries are probably raw.

I hope I don't burst your bubble here, but today I went to the farmers market (in southern California) and talked to a strawberry farmer. I asked him if his strawberries were organic, and he said sort of. He said they use bugs instead of pesticides and they don't use hormones for growing etc. But because of the massive amounts of fruit they produce it's simply too expensive for them to be certified organic, because all of their crops would die of diseases and pests, especially in the end of the season, if they didn't spray there crops heavily with pesticides. He said his strawberries are free of pesticides now, but he wouldn't be selling his strawberries fresh at the market soon because they would start spraying to save the last of their crops. Anyway, so I asked him "then what do you do with all the strawberries that you spray massive amounts of pesticides on?" and he looked at me with a "sorry just the way it is":o look on his face and said, "We send them to the canneries, and they use them for pie filling, jelly, juice etc." WOW that gave me a whole new appreciation for organic unprocessed fruit. I've been trying to get my hubby off of canned fruit for months, and after hearing that, he said he will never eat canned fruit again!
Anyway, If you can't get something organicly grown that's one thing, but be careful of the conventionally grown "bulk" or processed fruit. It's the most heavily chemically drenched fruit you can buy.
Also, beware of ALL conventionally grown strawberries.:( Of all the fruit that's conventionally grown, strawberries are the most dangerous. They aren't just sprayed with chemicals, they are grown in polluted soil, and they have no skin to protect them. If I could only buy one fruit organic, it would be the strawberries.
Sorry to scare you.:o You might want to check out Trader Joe's if there is one in your area. They sell ORGANIC frozen berries at a great price!

I saw a huge bag of frozen peaches and strawberries at Costco and this thread is exactly why I passed :(
I bought some produce which said "Grown without herbicides or pesticides" and had to wonder, amazing non-organic brands don't put "Grown WITH herbacides and pesticides!" as proudly on theirs. Silent but deadly indeed!

Essentially, it's like my grandpa tells me all the time, he reminds me that nothing is truly organic... so even when I buy certified organic I realize that it is essentially the lesser of two evils so to speak
