I used my raw pancake recipie to make waffles!
thought that I would share.
Disassemble your waffle iron (from the SAD days! ;)) and take the waffle grids and put them on your counter. If you don't own one, it's worth the investment.
Fill them with your batter.
Place them in your dehydrator, dry until you can flip them over. Dry until desired consistency!
These are SO good... better then the real thing, IMO.
if the waffles stick, try using your favorite raw oil on the grids. I used coconut.
enjoy.

I don't see a link or a picture anywhere so I tried the website and that didn't work. I then Googled the chef's name and came up with this link for the recipe and the picture along with suggestions for sauces:
http://www.rawguru.com/html/issue5.html (You have to scroll down to the pancake recipe)
I'm gonna try this!

Tizra, let me know how you like them.....and thanks for finding that link....I knew it was out there somewhere, LOL!
They were delish as pancakes... so I thought since I was just craving waffles I would come up with a way some how some way to make them, and I did! ;) The only thing is you may want to make the batter thicker, just experiment.
hope you like them

That sounds heavenly, Wendee, thanks for sharing!
And to think that my mother's ancient cast iron, 50 lb. waffle iron has been gathering dust & cobwebs up in my storage attic, unused, for years at this point. All along I've been thinking, Hmm. . what should I do with that thing?"

This post gave me a chuckle! My stepson just left the smell of waffles in the air, and that left me with a "I must try and recreate some waffles in raw form!". Was thinking of disassembling my waffle iron.
So I thought I'd do a search in case there are some waffle recipes out there, and voila, came up with this post! Imagine, Wendee had thought of rearranging her waffle iron as well, lol!
Not sure if I want to use the banana recipe, but I'll come up with something, and I'll post my successes and learning experiences here! :D

I did it! My family and I just had waffles with agave syrup for breakfast this morning! :D
They are wonderful! I made them last night and dehydrated them all night! One batch came out a bit thicker, so I am still dehydrating them, since like my husband just said, they are good, but they remind him a bit of not all the way cooked through waffles. So with a bit more dehydrating they'll be more non doughey, like my first batch.
Here's the recipe I created:
1/2 cup cashews
3/4 cup macadamia nuts
1 cup cubed squash
2 tsp sunflower oil
4 soaked dates
2 T golden flax seeds, ground
vanilla
pinch of salt
Process nuts, squash, soaked dates, and sunflower oil in a food processor until dough like. Mix in ground flax seeds, vanilla and salt. Try not to eat the dough already!
I sprayed the waffle iron with non stick oil, since I still have to get a little brush to brush on some oil (next time). Spread the dough on both sides of waffle iron. Try not to make it too thick, otherwise they'll take longer to get a bit of a crispy consistency, which I liked.
I dehydrated them for two hours or so, until I was able to peel them out of the waffle iron (slowly with the tip of a knife I loosed them one by one).
Then I just dehydrated them for about 9 hours overnight. But the thicker ones are still dehydrating .... well, the thicker one, since only one is left now, lol.

I guess I have to figure out how to take apart a waffle iron? How hard is that? I don't even know, if I still have one.

Umm, yeah, it wasn't easy. At first I tried the screwdriver way, but that didn't get me far, so out came the hammer. Felt kind of weird to be smashing up a perfectly good appliance, but hey ...... I got my waffles!
I also had to use some wire cutters to cut off some wires from the heating rod, which doesn't come off.
But I'm sure different waffle irons might be different to disassemble, but I would guess, the hammer method will work on all. :D

I suppose it's time to clean up and see if I can find 100# waffle iron or visit the thrift store. Wow, is this ever too cool or what! I think I have the same waffle iron as Bella. I used to hate to clean them. Now I need a trick for the day I find one. Thanks for sharing all. I'm super excited. What a nice Valentine's Day surprise for your special ones or yourself. My anniversary is coming up in a few weeks. Wouldn't it be way cool to leave these around with a card to start our 40th Anniversary off with syrup I saw posted at link for Alex newsletter.
Thanks a ton. Whoever said raw is boring? Did the iron scratch the inside of the Excalibur bottom like my scraped up car other day got on the bottom, but visibly.
Oh, how about syrups for the waffles? Maybe we can change the name of this tread to "waffles and syrup" and then post syrup recipes here? Can edit title by Go Advanced area on individual message. Hit SAVE after all done.
You all continue to amaze me!
Ot: Last week, after chiro, I was parked so no one would hit the driver side of the door, closest to the divider and it must have been way low I came away with large paint removal a spray can must take care of from auto dealership on bottom, below lights, but surely on the side where you can see it. Hubby hasn't seen yet, but won't be happy. So no more closest to these dividers--concrete of course that some put plants in. I have to touch up before winter to avoid rust. My gosh!

I actually don't have the Excalibur, but the Nesco American Harvest. I had to use the convert-a-tray accessory, since it was to high for a single tray. And I had to put it on the hole in the middle. :P
But it worked beautifully! :)

Whatever works and thanks for sharing Bella. I do have Excalibur for several years--9 tray. Don't use much, but when I do I use for days. Thanks for sharing.

I had a waffle iron, and not sure if I still have it although I never part with these type of things so hunting will take longer than being on lookout at thrift store.
Yes, they look great.

Bella,
Start us off with the waffle cone picture please of your makings please. I have to figure out how to waffle without a waffle iron to call it a waffle, look like a waffle sort of with the waffle iron. I suppose I will have to come up with another name then?
I just got back from thrift store and couldn't find one waffle iron. Maybe it's time to hunt for my own in the garage. I sure hope I have it. I do remember hating it as it was hard to clean too.
Oh, I found two ice trays for lemonade I never make but will hopefully with Meyer lemons.
I found a mandoline that comes with a case, from the All about TV store or sokmething like that who sells gadgets...I think I may have several so I may have some for sale if interested. Right now, not talking that talk here, because I first have to see what I have. I surely have more than one ice cream maker and probably a few new like the All about TV mandolin. I think maybe 2 new mandolins. At this point who knows.

As for making a breakfast type food with this recipe, just make pancakes instead. Just form patties. ;)

So I thought about waffle irons and remembered the one I bought probably 30 years ago at JC Penney. It was square, and the non-stick surface was removable and could also be flipped over on its flat side to make pancakes. I thought how great that one would work, and how unfortunate that I gave it to Goodwill probably 15 years ago. So today my son and I went one town over to take a couple of boxes of tin cans to Goodwill, and I was talking about the waffle iron. He suggested, since we were there we should just walk in and check if they have one I wouldn't mind destroying. Wouldn't you know, there it was, the exact same waffle iron. $6. I took it, paid for it, unsnapped the top and bottom waffle surfaces and asked the sales clerk, if she could toss the rest. She was a little confused, but did as I asked her.
Ok, now all I have to wait for is the end of my juice fast. I already bought some agave syrup.

Carol, you might want to check and see, if Goodwill has non-functional ones in the back somewhere? I didn't think of it before I bought mine, but I should have asked them, if they had some, that they couldn't sell anymore, since they didn't work! :p

I was thinking about this thread and I've looked but can't find any ... what do you guys think ... wouldn't you think someone would have a candy mold in the shape of a waffle. I would think this might be easier than taking apart waffle irons - what do you think? Like I said, I've looked briefly and haven't had any luck but I bet they're out there.
Blessings,

What about those cookie molds/presses for pizzelles? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Pizzelle.jpg
Maybe a craft store cake and candy section would have something?
I have a waffle iron with changeable plates so you can make grilled sandwiches on it, too. They are supposed to pop out, so I have no excuse not to try these!

You know what? YOu can just look for the grids. that's all you would need I would guess. Maybe call the manufacturer and ask them how much just a grid replacement would cost?
I have made these, and are excellent with strawberries and agave on top. YUMMIE FOR THE TUMMIE!!!:p

Sorry Carol, I was just looking for the bellamausi's waffle recipe (now that I'm off the juice fast), and I found your question. I found one on ebay, just so you know what it looks like (they are crazy, if they think it's worth that much, lol).
