I am new to this raw thing, still learning lots and trying new things and slowly eating more and more raw. I have been about 80% for the last week.

I usually only have 1 cup of instant coffee in the morning. I put either creamer in it or mix it with 'no added sugar' cocoa for my cheap version of a 'mocha'.

I usually have the occasional diet coke, but not every day.

My goal is to give up caffiene completely, but I want to transition smoothly, not cold turkey. I have too much going on to make myself sick and get headaches!

Anyone BTDT? I appreciate any advise.

I assumed I would continue drinking coffee when going raw. I wasn't even trying to give it up. I started by having either fresh fruit or a fruit smoothie in the morning, and a green smoothie at lunch. I simply never felt like having the coffee or tea anymore. That's what did it for me. I haven't had any coffee for over a month now. I have not had any headaches, but I did go through a a 2 to 3 day detox period a couple days after starting this.

Try teeccino (www.teeccino.com). You can wean yourself off of caffeine, they have info on their site: http://www.teeccino.com/quitting.aspx.

I recommend continuing on the path you're on ~
adding more and more raw, not focusing on the caffeine part of your life (or on eliminating ANYthing) too much. After a while, for me, my green tea became totally unnecessary -from all that RAW energy- and it effortlessly fell away!

The above suggestions are great. Stay well hydrated...get plenty of rest.......some light exercise.....and try not to do too much at once (like going 100% raw cold turkey AND quitting caffeine...AND quitting smoking! Ha! ha!....all in the same weekend!) LOL.

Wean yourself by consuming less caffeine. Make your coffee/tea weaker or do half regular, half decaffeinated.

You can also wean by drinking weaker teas. So, if you drink black, try oolong; if you drink oolong, try green; then go to white teas.

If you consume 3 cups of caffeinated beverages a day, make one of them an herbal, then move to two, etc.

For tea, you can also steep the first cup and throw it out; it contains 90% of the caffeine. Then make a second cup out of those leaves and you will get just enough caffeine to avoid the headache, but a dramatically lower actual amount. This is a very old, very effective technique.

If you go off slowly, it's much easier and you avoid the headaches.

Also, if you find the taste lacking in watered-down coffee (if you drink coffee), add some carob powder.

Best,
