Is there a particular thing that is most effective for a high energy workout? I workout at Curves, and due to my blood pressure and thyroid I have had problems with energy. I would like to change that.

What do you guys eat/drink beforehand for an optimum workout?

Coconut water...has TON's of electrolytes...a couple of dates pre-workout gives a nice boost of energy too.

YEP ,what she said. Or coconut oil in water or juice ! Fruit is a good way to go before a workout.

Thank you, I bought a couple young coconuts the other day and thankfully watched on the dvd I received yesterday how to open it. :p

Trying it for the first time now on it's own. It is sweeter taste than I normally like, but am giving it a full chance.

I put the rest of the coconut back in the fridge. Need to figure out something fun and yummy to do with it!

I haven't had anything to eat yet today (I did have coffee... but I am brand new to this raw thing and while I intend to go caffiene free ..baby steps!)

I will go for my workout in about 20 minutes. I am excited to see if I notice a difference!

Are you into juicing fruits and veggies? If so, I love this simple recipe, it's great for before and after a workout!

1/4 cucumber
1 stick celery
2 apples
Ice (if you desire)

Juice the lot and pour over ice...

Food doesn't give me energy, making sure my body is clean internally, getting enough rest and staying out of sressfull situations gives me the energy I need.

I work out first thing in the morning and only drink water before I start (and sometimes a lot, depending on how I feel when I wake up). The only time I've needed more than that was when I was pregnant.

I usually have a banana or apple and half a water bottle before going (roughly 15-20 minutes.) I finish the water at the gym and come home to have another banana, a salad or a smoothie with banana/coconut.

I just have water when I work out at home in the mornings. Before I go for a 30+ mile bike ride on the weekends, I like to have a big ole' green smoothie with one piece of fruit in it and the rest dark green leafies , sprouts, a litle dulse, a little tahini. Then I'm set for 3 hours or so. I pack a banana along and a raw energy bar like Lara or the ones Alissa sells. Before I swim on weeknights ( I usually swim about a mile in an hour) I eat soemthing like a plum and an apple, or an apple and a banana, depending on how hungry I am after I leave work. :)

If I do a really intense workout I dont like to eat anything before, right before usually. Makes me feel sick and I want to throw up. But after working out is another story. I load up.
