I made these dog treats for my friends yellow lab and she loved them. The vet tried giving her a conventional treat and she spit it out. She only eats organic dog treats and won't accept anything else. She's a little spoiled.
Raw Dog Treats
2 cups carrots, shredded
1 apple, peeled, cored and chopped
3 cups sprouted barley
½ c parsley
1/4 cup ground flaxseeds
3 T sesame seeds
1 T kelp powder
1 cup water
1. In a food processor shred 4-5 carrots or enough to make about 2 cups worth.
2. Add remaining ingredients to food processor and blend until smooth. Add more water if needed to turn mixture over. If you have a Vita-Mix or a high speed blender you can make this mixture even smoother. Add more water to blender and blend until super smooth.
3. Pour mixture onto a Teflex sheet on a mesh screen and spread about 1/2 inch thick.
4. Dehydrate at 135 degrees for two hours then flip and dehydrate at 105 degrees until firm. Mixture may still be soft the next day which will be perfect for the next step.
5. Cut into small 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 inch pieces or use a small round cookie cutter to make shapes without sharp edges. Place back into dehydrator until crisp.
Serve when your doggie has been good and watch the pure joy and bliss as they devour every morsel!
Let me know what your beloved dog thinks about these treats. :)
Here is a partial list of ingredients to make your own concoction for Raw Dog Treats: Dogs love barley, carrots, apples, flaxseed, rolled oats, alfalfa, sesame seeds, cabbage, avocados, bananas, nutritional yeast, tahini, kelp powder or any sea veggies and parsley.
Not very good for our canine friends: onions, garlic, broccoli, peppers or tomatoes.
