Well, I'm feeling a bit...shall we say....outnumbered. As one of the few males on the board, I hope I represent us well.

I am just starting my raw lifestyle. My wife has made the decision to make this our way of life, even though at less than 100 pounds, she doesn't really need to be concerned with her weight.

I, on the other hand, need to lose the equivalent of my wife in weight, without losing her! ;)

She has already received the Saladacco, the Excalibur 9 shelf dehydrator and has stocked up on jars for nuts, seeds and spices. This past weekend was spent in putting a garden in the backyard so she can grow our own produce! She seriously wants to see this make changes in my life and our life together.

I owe our decision to a wonderful lady from church who has made it her ministry to share Alissa's books and DVD's with anyone she can. It was not what I expected it to be, which is why it took me 4 weeks to finally pop the DVD in to watch it (on the day I planned to give it back with a "Thanks...that was interesting" never to think of it again). WOW!! I was not prepared for what I saw. I expected some kind of a lecture, but never in my wildest imagination did I think I would see what I did.

Soon, my wife was asking me "Hey, what are you watching, it sounds interesting?". As soon as she joined me in watching it, our futures were decided.

I look forward to sharing with everyone here. I hope I'm helpful to some and not too burdensome to others!! Either way, IT SHALL BE DONE!! :D

Wow, Kevin. How wonderful that the dvd hit you so hard. And welcome to the forum.
Your wife sounds so lovely. Garden and everything. WONDERFUL!
How fabulous that you are both doing it together. I hope raw leads you both to many amazing discoveries. We're glad to have you here. :)

Thanks Everyone!

Yes, my wife is a jewel...I can't believe that she has put up with me for over 17 years!!

I was following another program that was changing the way I thought about food. With that I have dropped 25 pounds since January 10, 2005. Then I saw Alissa on DVD and I just knew that I had to follow this life changing plan.

Problem, I have had the snacking munchies like crazy! I bought raw nuts and seeds and I think they made me gain 5 pounds!!

Anyways, that was when I was about 80% raw. I'm now 100% and I expect the snacking urge to go away. I really want to see immediate results as I have to visit my doctor quite soon and I want to try to get my Diabetes and Blood Pressure medication reduced or eliminated.

I will make it happen!

Thanks for all your good words and encouragement and thank God for Alissa!

Hi Kevin,

so happy to hear another Texan in here. What part of Austin are you in? I lived in Central Austin for over 15 years, but just recently moved to a house on Lake Travis. I like the quiet, but miss all the good things in easy walking distance.

Live in the new Dell-ville, work in south Austin.

I can't wait till I can live on the lake! You are a fortunate soul to live out there.

Thanks for the welcome!

Do you know of any raw happenings in the Austin area?

Hi Kevin
I too am new to this Living Food diet and started it 5 weeks ago after coming across Alissa's web site by accident, while doing a goggle search. I was fasting at the time and don’t remember what I was looking for, but let me tell you, I am so happy I did! I've dropped 26 pounds and have gone from 19% body fat to 16% now and hopefully get to around 10% one day. I wish I would have known about this board so I could have done a journal and would recommend you start one, if you haven’t already. I can’t help but notice us "males" are few and far between on this discussion board, but its growing every day. I enjoy reading all the posts and use them as inspiration to continue this way of eating. Good luck and enjoy! A whole new world is opening up for you!
Cheers

Hi Kevin. Welcome. I am glad to see that more men are joining in, and more texans!

That is so exciting about that woman in your church ministering in this way. Truly. The church could use more healthy, raw food, rather than fried chicken at church potlucks and such. think of the transformation that it could be....just imagine it....

glad you came

Welcome Kevin :)

That is so awsome that you and your wife are doing this together. Although my husband supports me 110% it is not the same as doing it together. What support you can give each other. Not to say the fun of discovering new foods, flavors and recipes together.

Enjoy

Wow, what a response....I'm floored!

DennisMB, I'll have to look into that journal as I'm sure others coming behind me will be happy to read that the things they are feeling are not just them...that's one of the most important things for me right now....Like I'm munching almost constantly...I don't know if that's normal, as I haven't gotten to a lot of the journals, but it's worrying me that I'm grazing so much. I have dried fruits and Veggies that we bought or made, nuts and some homemade deydrated crackers from Flax seed...it seems that I'm always shoving something in, or looking for something.

I'm 100% raw with the exception of drinks. I'm drinking green tea with splenda and some chrystal light drinks. (I just can't get excited about plain water or lemon/lime water....yet).

Vegangelist - I agree, now that I'm exposed to this, I want to spread it with the gospel!! I will support Celeste in any way I can in her quest to spread the word!

veggiemom2 - I wish I could be as committed as my wife...she's absolutely amazing and I don't deserve her! The support I get from her, my 3 daughters (yes, I am a minority in a sorority, totally outnumbered by Left-Handed Females ! but I have my own bathroom!!) helps me daily....now if I could get my co-workers to help....

Catherine - I'm glad I could bring laughter to your day, it's one of the best healers available! I will try to document my journey as much as possible...

MMMM....I just love these dried cranberries!!!
