Shalom to everyone!
Hey Alissa is jewish I think (Cohen? should be) and she has a latke recipe. Has anyone tried it...you know we can make raw applesauce too!!!! Some apples, some agave...maybe a passionfruit..mmm
Hmm I'm thinking that might be fun to try...mind you, I'm feeling a little bloated on all the gourmet I've been eating. Going to go back to the basics for a while...but Shoshannah why don't you try making the latkes?

I know a lot of Jehovahs Witness and Mormon raw foodists, too, although I'm not a religion myself, just a free-spirited "child of God". And Christians too. There's no denying that God intended this diet for us.

as far as Alex's Challah you can e-mail him and discuss this issue: And what does Causens use for his recipe?

Yep, I found that out.... I looked and looked through all my raw food recipe books and found not one single recipe for latkes!
My heart is broke and my tongue is throwing a temper tantrum. Must tame that shrew little beast one of these days :D
Anyway, my quest for the land of latkes has ended for a spell... but I will return with a vengence, armed with loads of potatoes and applesauce and a permanent smile on my face.

HAHA... What a great Jew Iam I didn't even spell HALAH right, aha. See it's been sooo long. *smiles*
Funny, the only Jewish food I miss is my " CHALLAH" Ha, when I first moved to LA, tho, At the 99cent store they had these big ol packs of Matzoh, I bought so many packs of those suckers. I had to vacuum my apartment almost everyday, but still worth it.
Just keep the Matzoh Balls, and (spell check) Gefilte Fish away from me... Yuck. Childhood nightmares when my Mother would always force me to finish them.... * yuck* lol
Oh and Latkes... Ha... I grew up in a small town, One year in the 3rd grade mom mother was told by the teacher to make a traditional Jewish treat for the kids, ya know, to diversify. So all the kids thought they were like PANCAKES, they looked like them. So they had an expectation. As soon as they took the first bite a collective OOOHHH, YUCK blew through the 3rd grade classroom. HAHA! I was very embarrassed. My mother was as well. But one girl, Ah god bless Felicia, she ate like 5... hehe.
But I digress, So anyone tried Cousens? LOL forgot about him did we. lol

lol your latke story cracked me up. And I feel the same way about Gefilte fish, tho I have a mock recipe that might be OK (haven't tried it yet)...but matzoh balls??? Who doesn't like those? mmmmmm :drooling into my green tea:
I made millet matzo for passover this year and was not too thrilled...only after close scrutiny of my seeds in the fridge did I realize that I made it out of quinoa lol...i might try it again, but it really doesn't have the same consistency as the boxed stuff. Have you ever had chocolate matzoh? Might get me some raw cocoa powder and try that. Everything is better chocolaty!:D :D
I'm still trying to figure out Cousens recipe....and what the hell 3 grains of buckwheat are gonna do to make it a 'real' challah...

I don't know if I have tried that exact recipe, but I tried some during their Shabbat at the Tree and yes the bread is yummy. Go for it.

I can't remember what I read about it, but something about traditional challah having buckwheat, so by adding the three grains of buckwheat it can be called challah, even though it mainly consists of flax seed. They avoid a lot of raw grains down there.
Here is the recipe:

Well I just have to jump in here. 3 grains of buckwheat does NOT a "true challah" make! (I asked)
So for your information, to be considered a "true challah", there are quite a few laws. I understand that it must be made from one of the 5 grains of the land - wheat, barley, oats, rye and spelt in order to be able to make the appropriate blessing. Buckwheat is not a grain.
So just don't bother trying to call it a "true challah". Call it "challah-like" or just simply "challah" -in quotes- and you will get the same message across, but without the mis-information that can lead to a lot of challenge regarding laws.

Personally, I think that Cousens' "true challah" looks quite nasty. Has anyone tried it? Isn't it just a bunch of goop? I wouldn't mind trying it if someone can tell me it is good. I don't expect it to be anything like the white puffy baked stuff that is usually called challah. Even when I made baked challah, I used whole grains.
I actually have a real challenge with this subject. For the sake of the Shabbos, I usually do have a little baked challah - but just a k'zayis - which is about the size of a golf ball. That is just so the bracha is not said in vain and for the sake of being able to bentch. Otherwise, I just have my onion crackers at the table. We love those anyway, and with all the dips and stuff that I make, the crackers are perfect. When we are home, it is fine - we stick to the diet and feel SO much better. But if we are invited out and end up eating some cooked food, our stomachs feel just horrible after. I spend Sundays feeling hung over (I think), although I have never actually been hung over.
At Pesach I did the same with matzah. Pesach was interesting. We went out for all the Yom Tov and Shabbos meals so with only 3 other days, we didn't eat much except fresh fruit those days.

Hmmm I dunno about that recipe. The only type of Challah I liked was the plain challah, no raisins, just nice ol challah. I'm just looking for the similiar tastes... thas all. LOL
Thanks tho... Maybe I will be brave and try oneday!
