any of you willing to share your favorite burger recipe?? i'm having a "cook out" soon, and would like to find something that is impressive to the pickiest of eaters- preferably without mushrooms- though i know they make the base of many dehydrated patties. i'll be serving them on a slice of tomato, with cultured pickles, marinated onions, "cheese" sauce, mustard and ketchup...i've tried making several recipes from the books i have- modifying a few of them, but so far, none have been up to par...
thanks for your help,
lane

Hello lane, our favorite "burger" is the onion bread recipe with only 2 onions. Shape into patties and dehydrate, turn and dehydrate some more. Now my family has only a passing interest in raw, yet this is one of the things they love. Since everybody has different tastes you will probably have to try several recipes.

hope you find one to love as well,
teri

yes, the carrot pecan burgers are good! i love them with the curry sauce, but don't know how great they would be with the "traditional" condiments-- plus, i replaced the mushrooms with zucchini, and i think that changed it quite a bit.
doe, that is a great idea!! i could probably even add in a zucchini or two- maybe even a red bell pepper for a little extra...
thanks!

Lane,

How about sprouted lentil burgers? You can sprout lentils, wheatberries, etc., add in flaxseed, walnuts, chopped veggies.

Also, sprouted rice could work really well, too.

I love Alissa's carrot pecan burgers, and maraw's (the raw table) I think they are called Happy cow bbq burgers?? They are both delish!

These are one of our favorite burgers. They actually have a very earthy taste because of the burdock root...

3/4 cup burdock (puree, you can grate it on a very fine grater, or blend it with the water)*
1/2 cup sunflower seeds (soaked)
1/2 cup cashews or pine nuts
1 cup almonds (soaked)
1 cup walnuts (soaked)
3 tbs. olive oil
1/2 cup celery juice or water
1/2 carrot (finely minced)
1 celery stick (minced)
2 tbs. dried basil
1 tbs. dried sage
1 tsp. fresh ginger (minced)
2 tbs. fresh cilantro
pinch of turmeric (keeps the mixture from spoiling)
1 tsp. cayenne or 1 tsp. of fresh diced ripe jalapeno
pinch of freshly ground black pepper (optional)
1 tsp. sea salt

Blend the nuts with the oil and celery juice or water. Mix in everything else. Put this is the fridge to marinate for 1 hour. Lay a piece of parchment paper on the table, put your burger mixture on top, get another piece of parchment and put it on top of the mixture, using a rolling pin or the palms of your hand, roll the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Then using a cookie cutter or a cup cut out patty shapes, and place the patties on teflex sheets, dehydrate for 2 hours at 145 degrees (only in the Excalibur at this temperature). Then bring the temp. down to 115 degrees and continue to dehydrate until desired consistency. You can make these into little meat balls and serve them with pasta, or make them even smaller and top your pizza. Yummy!

*The burdock root CAN NOT be substituted, this is what gives the burger its special flavor. Look for the thinner roots as they are more mildly flavored.

Carmella's note: I usually just form the batter into patties... I like simple! Plus, it works just as great...

Here's what Wikipedia says:

Also, your HFS may have it or might be able to order it for you...

And to think when i grew up on a farm we used to chop burdock down and dig out the roots and throw away. Never would have guessed they were edible.

Wonder who i know that has fresh burdock. Would be the best way of doing it.

There's a pic posted by Petals but I can't find it but I believe this is the recipe. Although my version didn't look as pretty as Petals this was GREAT and so easy to make...

My recipe:

http://s30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/MysticWitch25/th_pizza2.jpg

Mix in a processor

Olive oil

Diced onion

Garlic (to taste)

Dark flax seed

Sunflower seeds

Pine nuts (optional)

Braggs (optional)

Sea salt and pepper

Diced red and green pepper (optional)

Olive oil and some water to make it into a "paste"
Form into patty shapes and toss into the food dehydrator for 12 hours or until warm and still soft. You don't want these crunching up but you might need to flip em until they are dry on both sides and ready to eat. They are soo good!!
