does anyone have any ideas about pure organic cocoa powder? i saw it at the health store and was wondering if it's raw or not...i also heard some raw-fooders use it...what's the difference between cocoa powder and cacao? in germany (where i'm from) they call all chocolate cacao...so i don't know...any suggestions anyone? i just don't always wanna spend a fortune on cacao from the internet you know :)

Check the cans of organic cocoa powder very carefully. I got all excited over those in my favorite health food store...until I looked at the small print on the back that described how it was nicely roasted. The front label said not a thing about its being roasted.

I gave up and ordered carob powder from Alissa. A number of other raw foods sites, Nature's First Law is one, sell truly raw cocoa powder, I've noticed. I'm such a chocolate freak, that I figured I'd do better with carob, although I don't like the taste nearly as well.

I believe that anything cacao or cocoa contains theobromine (something like that) which acts like caffeine when eaten. Correct me if I'm mistaken about that, but I think that's why those really concerned about avoiding poisons use carob instead.
