View Full Version : When do you eat your heaviest meal?

For simplicity's sake, I was thinking of eating just sweet fruit until 6pm, and then eating whatever else I want raw in the evening, including salad.
Does anybody do raw this way?
But, then I think that maybe my biggest raw meal should be at midday.
What do you think?
What works for you?

Hey there.
Well, it depends. There are days when I want something "heavier" earlier in the day - to work it off and then there are days when I want nothing heavy - which actually are more days that I don't want any heavy foods. I "graze" all day. I have a fruit smoothie in the morning. I'll have spirulina and Alissa's green powder in with that. Then I graze on fruit until lunch. At that time I'll have a green smoothie and maybe an onion bread tomato/avo sandwich. Then in the evening I'll have some fruit or another sandwich, or something I've made up, like cauliflower couscous, egg-less spread and veggies - whatever. I don't eat after 8 though. It depends. I really listen to my body. I don't "plan" out my meals. That's the beauty to me anyway is just listening to what I'm craving. If I want chocolate, I'll have it in the morning because of the caffeine in it.
I don't eat "heavy" foods even though they are raw in the evenings, because it does interrupt sleep. I'd rather have my body relaxing and be able to sleep well.
The days of counting this or that and planning this or that are over. YAY!!!

QB - do you have Alissa's book? She really lays out some eating guidelines - like great transitional meals for the 30-day challenge. That might be something to consider.

Hmmm. I've tried 'listening to my body'. I've tried 'eating what I crave'. I seem to feel better if I eat only fruit in the mornings, but progressively build up throughout the day... But I often can't seem to get my act together to take a salad to work. I think Gosia only eats fruit during the day.
I don't have Alissa's book. I don't have a credit card...and can't get it anywhere in Australia. Unfortunately.

Hi David.
Do you eat any nuts or seeds? Or is it a large sweet fruit meal? Or a salad? Are you a fruitarian?

I strive to eat all my fruits in the earlier part of the day and if I am really conscious about it, before noon. I eat a heavier meal typically for lunch (around 12 or 1) and the rest of what I eat is something that I can eat at any time (salads, etc.) A typical eating routine for me might be something like
5 a.m. strawberries
8 blueberries
11 blueberries
2 raw pizza or spaghetti or fajitas (if i don't have anything like that prepped, then it will big a nice serving of nuts like some cashews or some brazils)
5 big salad (lots of veggies and a yummy dressing) or it might be something as simple as a big bowl of sliced cucumber and roma tomatoes
Listen to your body and pay attention to your energy levels and how you react after eating certain meals late in the day. I dobut you can go wrong; you'll know what's best for you.
Incidently, I'm having spaghetti and meatballs at 7:30 p.m. because I didn't have time to get to it earlier today and switched and had the salad earlier... oh well, it's all good:D

I guess we're all different. Sweet fruit doesn't agree with me so I eat very little of it. Exception being the stuff in my garden when in season. Mainly I eat that because it's there and it doesn't cost me anything.
I usually eat either breakfast or lunch. Rarely both. But then I have medical problems and can't eat a lot, ever. I guess dinner is my biggest meal because by then the hunger is starting to kick in. And I eat a snack before bed.

No just fruit...no nuts or anything. So my heaviest meal would be a bunch of avocados...at around 10-ish.

This is all very interesting. It shows us how different we are. (David I have a photo of you on my screen saver...I have many photos that flash up...I'm not obsessed by you or anything...) David, do you eat greens?

Ha! ha! That's ok...no. No greens. A typical day is fresh orange juice for breakfast.....a bunch of avocados before noon.....some apples after that....then maybe some pineapple or papaya or grapes. After that....I'm pretty much food-ed out! :) Oh, you can check out some more recent pics and entertaining stuff by checking out the photos page on my site.

David, why don't you eat nuts and seeds? Or greens?

-Because after many years of choosing to eat healthy....I became very sensitive to individual foods....and I found that greens were not as vital and easy to digest as fresh fruits.......and that nuts irritated my mouth and tended to slow down my digestion...and make me ill. So I simply made a commitment to cut down and then avoid these items forever.

I have been eating anything when I want (usually fruit though after 10:30 or 11:00 am) & whatever I want after around 1pm. I'm starting something different now though. I decided to try to eat just fruit all day until dinner & then eat wat I want (more fat...nuts, seeds, avocados, ect.)

I tend to eat whatever whenever too.
But I have noticed that my AM smoothies are usually a rich and thick multi item concoction and if I blend anything at night it's more like a slushie one fruit and ice kinda dirnk.

I've been eating my main meal (large green salad) at noon this past month and eating more lightly at dinner time and I've found my digestion working much better. I am not so full at bedtime and sleep easier too. So for now, noon is my main meal, with fruit in the morning and snacking at dinner time, usually a small salad then too if I want. I am sure this pattern will change again soon!
For simplicity's sake, I was thinking of eating just sweet fruit until 6pm, and then eating whatever else I want raw in the evening, including salad.

I usually end up eating my largest meal at lunch (between 10-11:30 AM) that is always a huge salad and it is like an aphrodisiac, as long as I have the right dressing. :-) myself to that.

I would love to have my heaviest meal at morning or for lunch, but in reality it is for dinner. It is not much larger than my breakfast or lunch, but is still slightly larger on average.

I'd have to say (on the average) late afternoon (3:30/4pm). But I don't know that i'd actually call it 'heavy'... but it's when I might have the Spicy tacos or something like that. alot of times it might just be a small but heavenly salad. :p
